Aerial coyote hunt planned north of Seligman

03/20/2003

SELIGMAN (AP) -- The Arizona Game and Fish Department is planning a coyote hunt in northern Arizona.

The hunt will be done from the air and will be conducted north of Seligman, either later this month or early April, Game specialist Johnny Mills said.

It will coincide with the time antelope are giving birth.

The hope is that by eliminating some of the predators, the fawns will be given a chance to grow up and join their dwindling herds, Mills said.

With continued growth, the drought and the lack of vegetation, the hunt is necessary to ensure the herds continue, he said.

I wish they would just ask hunters to do this. This only adds to the ammo for the anti's. I know here in Cali up in Lassen county a few years back they did that. The biogist said there are too many 'yotes and asked hunters to go out during fawning season and thin the 'yote population.

Aerial gunning is actually a very common practice even here in Commiefornia. The state flies 2 or three times every winter. They used to fly a chopper now they fly a plane. I wish that they would go back to the chopper, they did a much better job in the canyons.
The guy that guns said that it takes some practice to remember to shoot at their tail in order to hit them (they are moving faster than the coyote).
