Does any one know of any Cali land owner tags available for Antelope?

Since non-res can not put in for the Ca Antelope draw that is the only way to go for a non-cali-res.

I do know of the Tejon Antelope hunts ($2500) but I was looking for something up in the NE corner.

If you want to hunt pronghorn you should go to Wyoming they have the most antelope and you can get a tag in some areas over the counter. The guided hunts go for around 900-1500 but you can go and gain access eazily they also have a walk in program. The califonia land owner tags in the NE CA are exspensive and they still have a waiting list. You could buy a goveners tag for $2000 I think Some rances I have been to in NE CA want $500 to gain access to the ranch. Good luck The areas farthest north and east have the most tags in Wyoming.

Thanks for the suggestions but I need to stay in August hunt places. Because of my Guiding schedule I only have Aug and Dec to hunt.

Tom where can I find out about a Govenors tag?

Is that an auction tag. I heard they went for $3000 / $3500 last season.

Can that tag be hunted on public land as well as private?

muskeg,

I hunted with Jim from JFWRC last August. Great hunt and very reasonable. Check him out he is a great guide. I am sick that I am not able to hunt with Jim in NM this year. Maybe next year:)

These are the numbers and contact info for the tags they will tell you how much they have been going forI have seen them go for as low a 2000-2500 I think you can use them anywhere>
Califonia deer Assn Chico chapter 530-345-7296 Andrew Wood
SCI Granite bay chapter 916-929-6000 Ronald Arendt
Those are the only tags I can find info on Hope this help We use to apply for area 99 in WY and it opened on the Labor day weekend look online for the hunt dates in wyoming and see if any other areas can be hunted at you time we only take a couple of days to hunt. This year and 4 of us shot 7 in a day and a half should of hade 8 but the kid we took couldnt hit another onr he got 8 chances sohe went without a doe . I personaly shot three my dad two some times we shot two at a time makes it eazyer to clean 2 a once rather than individualy.

You can't get a California land owner tag for antelope, like you can for deer. The only tags that are available for purchase are through the 580 program (PLM). You would need to contact a land owner that is invloved in this program for info regarding tags.

Ranchwife,

Aren't Alturas Ranches and Romero Ranch in the PLM program?

Muskeg,

if you're a guide in Alaska, maybe you could make an interesting trade with a landowner/hunter whose got some PLM tags? I remember calling the CA DFG several years ago looking for a reasonable private land deer hunt after striking out in the lottery. I spoke with a guy named Mike (sorry, I don't remember his last name) who ran the big game lottery. He was very helpful and got back to me the names of several ranchers who had PLM deer tags that he thought might meet my requirements.

I don't know if they do that as a matter of course or if he was just being a nice guy, but you might call DFG and/or the DFG biologist for Modoc or Lassen Counties (and maybe Klamath County?) and see if you can identify a PLM participants with antelope tags. I don't know if it will turn anything up, but it might be worth a shot. Good luck

Muskeg, Ca DFG will mail you a list of all the PLM ranches and tags available. It is cheaper to go this route versus the auction tag. A auction tag rarely sells for less than $2500. Also do your homework, hunting antelope in Ca does not compare with some of these other states. I drew archery in 99 and was not impressed with the numbers. I scouted for a week before the season and this attributed to me being successful. Good luck. Ed F
