Antelope Sheds

I was up for the weekend in AZ unit 1, and saw a herd of antelope that had at least 15 bucks in it. All but two bucks had dropped their sheaths. One buck had only his right horn on and a small 13" buck had both on. Anyway, after watching them for a couple days, they moved out so I went in where they had been, trying to find my first shed. I did find a good 15" shed and was thrilled. This is the first time I specifically went shed hunting and it was great to actually be successful. ...........

Boy you learn something new every day! I didn't think goats shed. I thouhgt horns (unlike antlers) were on for good. Thanks for sharing.

You aren't the only dumb one, prohunter. I thought they kept their horns too!

They are definitely an unusual species.

cousehunter you cherrish that antelope shed becuase thats a one in a million to find a goat shed let alone finding one in good condition. They deteriate fast and both the coyotes and mostly the rabitts and small rodents take care of them fast so your fotunate to have one. I have only found one that was weathered bad and nawed on but just the same its the only one I have found.
