How did that guy in the middle end up with four arrows in his knee?

Hey tradbowhunter.
That is a great photo. Would you mind if I posted it on the bulletin board at the park?

Joel,

I'd be happy to have you post the photo at the Army Corp office. I'll drop a copy in night box next time we go out hunting. Our group is planning a trip this upcoming week. Look for the photo then. Thanks for supporting the bow hunting program at the lake.

SacFire,

Good call on leaving Thurs. afternoon, it poured all night. Same old story for me and my buddy sign every where, even heard a couple of pigs rustlin in some brush but still wasn't able to get a shot off.

We should be going back sometime this month, not sure when though.

Just back from Sonoma. The first night my buddy walked up on a boar at about 30 yards, just 15 minutes after I dropped him off with the boat. It saw him first...no shot.

That evening, I saw about 20 hogs just across the lake--this was the first large group of pigs I have seen in the past two trips! I quietly motored over to em but could not get in on em...I got to about 200 yards but the wind was bad and it was almost dark, so I backed out.

We waited in the same place last night hoping for the RAIN to quit, but it never did and the hogs did not come out of the thick stuff...

Hog report update,

Spent two days in the field Nov. 2-3. Although there is still allot of fresh pig sign, the hogs don't come out during the day light hours. Hunting pressure may account for the animals switching to a nocturnal pattern and hunters will be hard pressed to spot groups of hogs in open country during shooting hours. We jumped a couple bedded boars mid-day but were busted well before getting within ethical bow range. The boar beds are well used and are part an established feeding and bedding pattern. Now that we have these boars figured out we will be dropping some large swine. Can anybody recommend a good taxidermist?

Traditional Bow Hunter...I have found that piggs spooked out of beds take awhile to return.

That's great you guys found some good beds...hopefully the wind will cooperate and you guys will down some swine.

BTW, we were camped next to you guys at loggers camp this week...you guys left at the right time. I poured yesterday afternoon!

Glad to hear you guys got into the group of hogs. We were picking up sign on the small finger ridge above your boat and it looked fresh that moring. Infact there were wallows swirling with mud and foot prints that were still settling. The hogs must have been right in front of us moving up the hill. That day was perfrect for hogging.

The forcast calls for 2 inches today. Hunting will be good in the next couple days. I hope to break away and get a hunt in. Maybe see you out there?

Hey folks,
I just got done counting up all the hunter registration cards and found out that 23 pigs were taken out of the park last month with a hunter success rate of 15%.

Last year the highest success rate was somewhere around 4-5% so it looks like your hitting them hard. (I also think that this is a refection of a population increase as well.
Good work!

Hey folks,
I forgot to mention that we had a reporter from National Public Radio out at the park last week doing a report on pig hunting. She went out with Doug Valance on Thursday (in the rain) and they got one! I spoke with her on the phone a few days later and she said that she got the whole thing recorded sound of the bow, squeal of the pig etc. The story will probably air sometime before Thanksgiving on KQED 88.5 FM and I’ll post a link to the story when it does.
P.S. she got so tired during the hunt that she had to pull off of 101 to rest before she got back to San Francisco.
(When asked by her if I was going to go hunting as well, I said that I was not crazy!)
