I would like to know what I can hunt for cheap or free in AZ. I will be in the Golden Valley area in April this year if all goes well and I've never been in the area.

What kind of small game is available? I don't mind spending some $ for a day or two permit max since I will only be there for a short time.

Thanks in advance.

Cant say I have hunted Golden Valley, At that time of year best you could do if you havent drawn a turkey tag is varmint, coyote, rabbit. Nothing is free and for non-res probably not cheap. You can go to AZGFD to get more info if needed. You might do better fishing or if you shoot 3-D getting info on that. Hope this helps.

Ok thanks for the input. Do you know what season(s) its best to varmint out there in the desert area? If I can get my ducks in a row for 2008 I can try to time my visit to that area better.

I am not a big varminter but I would say starting in the fall through early winter. Coyote and Lion are open year round but bobcat and fox are closed in March until mid August. If hunting in desert areas I would always pick November-December time period just because of wanting to miss the heat.
