I'll be in Oklahoma for their opener next weekend. I've gone every year since forever, and have always scored well. I'm an experienced turkey hunter with a shotgun, and adept at concealment and calling. I can get the birds close.

This time, I've decided to try my hand at taking one with archery equipment. I've been hitting the indoor and outdoor ranges for the last few weeks, and I've got the pins dialed in for 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards. since I'll be shooting over decoys and have experienced callers in the blind, the last couple of range trips I've been pounding the 20 yard target hard and I'm getting really nice groups.

Now, I know that hitting a paper bullseye is a lot different than a bird in the field, and I'm aprehensive about movement, technique, etc. The bow is an older NCA Badger compound bow, 50lb draw, with aluminum arrows and brand new 100gr broadheads that I've tested and sighted in.

Any tips, tricks, things to consider when bow-hunting turkeys would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert but I took my first archery turkey last season and with what you've described, seems to me you are all set. All you need to do is get them in close and let if fly!! I got mine at 30 yds. He didn't go far. Good luck and post up how you fair.

I think what worries me most is getting busted during the draw cycle. I won't be shooting from a pop-up blind, we always do well finding a tree/bush line on the edge of a meadow to blend into. I'm ging to have to pay close attention to where I set up - I need to be deep in shadow while still having a clear shooting lane to the decoys.

I'm even thinking of painting my broadheads a drab color so they won't glint in a patch of sunlight......

Yeah getting busted drawing back is always a concern if you're not in a pop up as I was. Those thunder chickens might be stupid but their eyes will get you every time!! Here's a couple pics of mine from Spring 2012. Turkey1.jpg DSCF0219.jpg turkey beard.jpg
