I was lucky and just got drawn for a Arizona 18A Muzzleloader Antelope tag. Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions on where to start scouting there? I am just starting to do my research. Thanks in advance.
One bit of advise. Don't shoot the first buck you see! There are some real, REAL nice bucks there. Take the best optics you can beg, borrow, or steal. Work up a load that you can shoot at least 125 yards.
I'll check my notes and maps and try to give you a head start. You might also check with Grail. He and his family are the Antelope experts, not only in Arizona but probably the whole country.
Thanks for the advice. I don't plan on shooting the first buck I see cause I am in a hurry. I plan on scouting before the season. And hunting the whole season for a real nice buck. I have some great optics and I plan on using them alot. I shoot a Knight Disc riffle and I can shoot out to 200 yard with it consistantly. I am going to equip it with a scope for this hunt since it is legal in Arizona to have a scope on a muzzleloader. If you find anything in your notes please let me know.... thanks...
I spent the Labor Day weekend scouting Arizona 18a. I Saw 5 or 6 15" bucks...and had a great time. I am still interested in any information that anyone may have that they are willing to share. I spent all of my scouting time on the North side of Interstate 40. I talked to a archery hunter that was hunting on the south side and was seeing alot of antelope and some real good ones too. Any ideas where he may have been?
