What is the best place to go for a guy who is looking for a relatively cheap (public land or reasonable tresspass fee) hunt. I don't particularly care if I get anything real big. Just a nice average antelope. I've never done an antelope hunt before and would love to give it a try.

I'd prefer to fly there and rent a car for four or five days. Stay in a motel or Bed & Breakfast.

What do you guys think?

Wyoming & Colorado would be my choices for a relativly cheap hunt if your not looking to get your name in the book. They both have easy draw area's.

COHunter is right - Wyoming is THE place to go if you want an antelope and don't care if it's big.

Bill-Have you checked into guided hunts? If not, e-mail me and I will tell you about a hunt I have available in NE New Mexico where you fly into Albuq, meet me in Roy, NM and I take you or you and a buddy on a great hunt with awesome opportunity to harvest nice antelope. Jim

Thanks for the info guys. I'll look into Montana.

As far as the guided hunt goes, I appreciate the information, but I enjoy the planning, researching, scouting, and challenge of the hunt more than the actual kill. I've been on several guided hunts (pig, waterfowl, and upland). I always had fun but, on those occasions I've generally felt like the guide was doing the hunting and I wasn't much more than a trigger-puller.

I'm not knocking it, but I get so much enjoyment out of the hunt tself, that I'd rather do it with a buddy rather than a guide. And if that means taking a smaller animal or coming home empty-handed, that's o.k.

I live in Colorado and still choose to go to Wyoming. The folks are real nice there and you don't often run into the crowds. (Depends on where you go I guess) Wyoming has landowner lists available if you call up Game and Fish. They do have some big goats up there if your patient and get a bit lucky.
