CA Antelope Tag Stats

Has anyone done the stats on how long one has to wait in order to draw a CA antelope tag? From the DFG website the Lassen Period two hunt allows for 46 tags with about 1800 applicants. This does not seem like to good of odds. I know with the point system your odds increase every year.


Can any of you succesfull tag drawers tell me how long it took.

I think the answer to that one would be a miracle to come up with. I know guys that put in all their live (40+ years) and not got drawn and some guys get drawn the first year. I personally got drawn on my third attempt and those were not consecutive years. I don't think the point system has been around long enough to affect the draw yet but maybe it has. I'm still looking at five more years before I can even apply again.

My wife pulled a tag the first year she put in. I have never been pulled in the about 7 or 8 years that I have been applying.

My dad is one of the 40+ year denial guys.

My father put in 33 years before drawing a tag - then DFG forgot to send him his acceptance letter and he almost missed sending in the money for the tag. Thanks to JHO, we were able to check to see if he was drawn and were able to stay on top of things.

I have applied for an antelpoe tag for 23 years and never have been drawn, YET....

I was drawen the first year I applied in 1970 sat out my 10 years and have not missed a year since 1981 and have yet to draw again.

I put in from 1987 finally got drawn in 2000 now I have to wait another 10 years.....arghhhhh!!

A friend of mine got his tag after 3 years and it was for Zone 1.

Can you specify which Antelope Zone you want to put in for? Or is it just one pool and then you get what you get?

Seems like a different ball game with the points system. I'll have 3 going into this year. With the waiting period for sucessful hunters and those who don't have max points, who knows. Can't hurt. My brother who has no points and just got interested in CA hunting thinks he is going in on a party tag with me...

Took me 3 years to draw Lassen Period 2. Took a great antelope this year and will now sit on the sidelines for the next 10.

Due to the fact that I can't even earn a point for 10 years, I doubt if I will get another CA Antelope tag in my lifetime (I'm 36 now).

My app. was drawn 3 times since 1970. 1st time for a tag, 1970. 1983 as an alternate, in case somone didn't take their tag. 2003 for a tag. I think there is a definite advantage putting in as a party. If one gets drawn, both get a tag.

I put in every year since I was 15...I was drawn a week before my 31st birthday. 16 stinking years. My only revenge is that I was also drawn for a bull elk tag that year. Here is a pic of my Likely Tables lope....
