Who's putting in for what? I'm kind of torn between Likely Tables and Lassen. I will probably go for Lassen period II, only because I've been there years ago with a buddy and somewhat know that area.

How about you.

Just thought I would throw in a reminder that we are supplying a Lassen tag to the CDA auction in Sacramento. Our tag is an extended period. It will run from the beginning of period 1 until Oct 18.

I apply every year for Surprize Valley - Archery Buck. The reason is because in '92 I drew the rifle tag for that unit and I scouted it real well. My ground work has already been laid. Now my reason for applying there in '92 was because it seemed like everyone applied for the bigger zones farther south, so I applied for the smallest zone farthest away.

Several years ago a friend & I were driving south on I 5 from a hunt in Siskiyou County when we spotted a large number of antelope in a field west of I 5 . We both stopped at the next rest area and discussed what we had seen so close to I 5.

Glass eye,
I've tried for that area the past 5 years, that theory didn't work. So I'm going to try a different area and see what happens. I like the surprise valley area, seen lots of goats when deer hunting up there.

It's the luck of the draw. My very first application for a draw hunt was in '91 for antelope in the Susanville area. The following year was Surprise Valley and I drew it. A good friend of mine who had never applied before was inspired to apply after seeing my good fortune, and on his 2nd year he drew Surprise Valley.
If you like Surprise Valley, stick with it.
Good luck
ps. just don't apply for the archery hunt, there's only one tag and its got my name on it.

I think I'm going to play the odds game this year and put in for Likely Tables P2. How much of this zone is public land? I know several people have hunted it from here and I have done many searches, someone mentioned that it's mostly private. Going in with max points, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Mel - That zone is mostly public land and access is pretty easy. Likely Tables is what I usually put in for and haven't drawn, but this year I might have to try something different, like Surprise Valley archery. I feel lucky...

bodega,
Thanks for the update, I was hoping it was mostly public. I'm still going to play the odds and see what happens. I know Surprise Valley area, some of it anyhow and Lassen, But I think Likely Tables would be a great hunt, just have to draw, just like everyone else.

Beware of the dreaded Likely Tables flip-flop! The odds of drawing P1 and P2 flip every year when applicants look at the odds in the Big Game booklet. This year P2 looks better from the '08 odds and most people will put in for P2! In '07 P1 had better odds.
