Headed out for the first scouting trip of the year! Went up high off hwy 38. Hiked in about 5-6 miles & did not see one sign of life. Glassed for hours and nothing. I was up looking at around 9200-9600 feet. No fresh sign anywhere. Got caught in a pretty knarly thunder storm too lol came back down the hill and of course I find fresh shit 50 yards from my truck, go figure. How’s every one else doing out there?

That is an old timer's secret. Never get too far from the truck!

went out last week in the northern part of the 16, only found some old sign and one trail that looked like it has been used, was hot and dry. Spoke with some guys out shooting one of them advised me as to where water is in the area, since they were sighting in shooting in that general direction decided to check it out another time.

Depending on the acorn crop and how much Manzanita is left. Water will again be a crucial factor. Another tough year for deer and hunters.

I've seen plenty of does, no bucks, but closer to 4500ft elevation
Just got off the hill, went lower in elevation this weekend. 5000 ft Found plenty of does but no bucks. Hoping to find a shooter before rifle season starts 😅

Yea I noticed the acorn trees don’t have squat on them.
