DFG News Release: For Immediate Release
December 17, 2002
DFG Launches Clickable Fishing and Hunting Regulations on the Web
Contact: Carrie Wilson, Marine Region, (831) 649-7191
California's fishing and hunting regulations are now just a click away on the Department of Fish and Game's (DFG) new interactive Web pages.
Sport anglers planning a trip to go ocean fishing can now go to DFG's Web site at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/fishing_map.html and easily download fishing regulations for specific regions along the coast.
A detailed map of the state and its entire coast allows online browsers to simply click on the location of where they plan to fish in northern, central or southern California, to access a list of sport fishing regulations and other useful information for that specific region. With "printer friendly" versions, anglers also have the option of printing these site-specific regulations, or to print regulations for their desired species with just a click of a mouse.
Updated lists of open fisheries and upcoming seasons are also only a click away. For example, anglers planning a fishing trip to Morro Bay in central California can logon to the clickable map and receive printed regulations for the current open fisheries such as spiny lobster, California halibut and kelp bass, as well as receive a list of fisheries that have closed for the season, such as abalone and salmon.
Looking for a specific species? DFG's Web site also offers species-specific links to fishing regulations and season dates. Individual Web pages for albacore, ocean whitefish, white seabass and many others include a section on the regulations -- size, bag and possession limits for each fishery, descriptions of the open areas in the ocean, species descriptions, and for many marine resources, links to colored images of fishes that can be used to help anglers better identify the fish they plan to catch.
Other useful Web pages available to saltwater anglers include the ability to download the entire booklet of the 2002 Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations. A printer-friendly version of the 2003 Summary of Recreational Bottom Fishing Regulations is also available online, as well as news releases on Fish and Game Commission actions concerning California's marine resources.
For the freshwater angler, DFG has a separate page pertaining to the state's Inland Sport Fishing Regulations, and download speeds are geared toward computers with a 56k modem, which most users utilize. California's hunters can also obtain useful information from the Web before going out into the field. Regulations for deer, waterfowl, and upland game hunting are now available in full-booklet PDF, including graphics. Hot links to the 2002/03 deer hunting seasons, and a page on state and federal hunting areas as well as a deer zone map are also available online at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/fg_comm/regs.html.
