So we get a nice buck and as we pull back above the shoulder to start the cutting a huge clump of hair just pulls right out. It wouldnt have been a big deal until we had pulled the hair till about a 5 inch cirle of bare skin showed. Anyone else have this problem? What causes it?

Probably nothing wrong with him. Thats typical of antelope. You just gotta be really careful when caping them out. It's very easy to pull the hair out. Also no matter how careful you are theres going to be a little hair falling off.

Was this your first antelope hunt???

antelope hair will fall out, pull out, and or/ rub off very easily. It's the nature of the beast.

That's exactly what the biologist told us before our hunt. That if we were going to mount our goats to watch the hide. The hair comes off really easy on them.

Couple of examples.

First antelope i shot i went to drag him and grabbed a handfull of skin and came away with a handful of hair.

Cant recall where i saw it, but, i saw a video of a coyote getting a mouthful of hair after chasing a antelope and basically was like a dog with peanut butter in his mouth. Makes you think it may be part of their defense mechanism.
