Pheasant work: You may be one of the lucky hunters who had your best dove opener and pheasant hunting season in years last year. Now it's time to pay something back for it. Leon Lesicka of Desert Wildlife Unlimited in Brawley has scheduled two work parties for June 7 and June 21, and he needs volunteers. The more he gets, the lighter the work.
Lesicka and DWU, working with the Department of Fish and Game (they mostly just stayed out of the way) were responsible for acquiring the hunting fields and planting them the last two years in the northeastern fields of Imperial Valley. The work for this project involves repairing cages and possibly installing hoods on pheasants before their release into the larger cages.
Report to Gibson Tools, 51 West Rutherford Road. It's west off Highway 111, north of Brawley. Reporting time is 7 a.m. or thereabouts, and the project goes until noon or so. For more information, call Lesicka at (760) 344-2793.
