Has anyone hunted area D7. I was told that this was a good alternate to put in for. It is up around the Shaver Lake area.
I love D8! WU has two AO ranches there and one of them is loaded with big bucks! I am not sure about public land in D8. D9 has a lot of nice dear also! I typically hunt around 5000 ft in D8 and the weather is comfortable.D8 pretty much sucks. The success rate if very low and the Temp is very hot. If you don't mind me asking what area are you hunting in D7.
All the time... It is in the heart of some of the best country in the sierras, yet get hammered by road hunters and OHVs. Anyone who is serious about hunting this area needs to get their game face on, back pack in well away from the hoards, do the research to really learn the area, be prepared to have lots of company, and have an alternative plan ready...
Good input cali, D8 is often overlooked because it has way too much easy access and because of the lower elevation get hot. I have had good success there and it is a water game, you find it, sit on it...I love D8! WU has two AO ranches there and one of them is loaded with big bucks! I am not sure about public land in D8. D8 is mostly Tulare County, with a little bit of Fresno & Kern County. I hunt mostly the north end, often in Fresno County. Don't think any of Tejon is in D8, and doubt any is D9.A big chunk of Tejon is in D8 and a small portion of D9!
Near Tehachapi where tejon borders Cummings mountain is D8, Tejon also has a small portion that is north of the 58 near Caliente which is D9. Does anyone ever hunt the western slopes of D7? The biggest deer I have ever seen in that zone was jumped from a ditch when we were pheasant hunting Pixley many years ago.
Pixley is several miles south of D7. Part of Pixley west of Hwy 99 is D8, the part east of Hwy 99 is A.Near Tehachapi where tejon borders Cummings mountain is D8, Tejon also has a small portion that is north of the 58 near Caliente which is D9.
