I drew Lassen / Zone 4 period 2 - HELP!

I just received my notice in the mail that I drew an antelope tag for Lassen / Zone 4 period 2. The hunt dates are September 4th thru 12th.

I have always applied for antelope, but never thought I would get one. I will actually be hunting for cape buffalo and plainsgame in Zimbabwe this year and will return August 23rd. My 5 year wedding anniversary is August 28th.

I guess I have a lot to do in 30 days!

Given that I will only have a short period of time to hunt, and I have ZERO knowledge of the area (also my first antelope hunt), should I look into getting a guide?

Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

First thing I would do is talk to the local biologist . They can usually put you in contact with past hunters and are a wealth of info if you ask the right questions in the right way . Congrats on the tag .

A friend of mine drew that tag several years ago. We seen lots of goats north of Skedadle mountain and around the 5 springs area. Head North on 395 out of Susanville, and take a dirt road east off of 395, the road will be on your right just after you cross over some railroad tracks. Off of this road, you can take any dirt roads north or south and will put you into goats. If you head north, you'll be heading towards the five springs area, south will take you towards skedadle mountain. I think Shinn Peak is just north of the 5 spings. I seen a guy take a nice 14" goat that was bedded down up in the 5 spings area.
