Hey everyone,

So here I am. A 25 year old guy. Happily married. With just about everything I could ever need to harvest just about any sort of game imagineable.
%3C

My Grandfather was a hunter. And I used to listen to the stories he told of growing up hunting. My father... well, he hunts via the Lazy Boy and the remote control. I doubt he knows who Jim Shockey is.

Im sending out this post because I have absolutely NO ONE to hunt with. I did hunt with one guy, but he moved up North. Every time I would go, the guy (and Im not trying to slam him in any way because he's a much better hunter than I am) the guy would go again at a later date and get something.
%3C

So Im looking for someone who is interested in getting a new hunting buddy.

I live in the SF bay area, and wouldnt mind hunting Deer, pig, antelope, Elk... oh Hell, just something with a pulse.

Just reply to this if you may be interested.

I have a lack of hunting partner problem too.

I'm 49,
My son doesn't hunt.
My wife does, but is not up for how I want to.

I hunt Deer & Bear in D-7, also Deer & Pig in A-zone south.

The trouble I'm having is finding a partner or crew that's willing to leave the roads behind.
I like to hike into a hunt area.
Day hikes & backpacking as well.

Where about do you live in the bay area.
I grew up in Half Moon Bay.

I have the same situation. My last hunting partner passed away suddenly at a young age. I really want to hunt whatever is available. I enjoy quail and dove, have done occasional deer. I want to add pig and more deer if I can.

I live in So Riverside County. I am willing to drive.

My real goal is to pass this heritage onto my sons - 8, 13 and 17.

I feel for both of you. I currently reside in the San Jose area. I have never hunted birds, but I'm a great shot with skeet and trap on both the 12 and the 20 guage.

As far as hiking and backpacking goes, my "cherry-popper" if you will was down south near some mountain my buddy knew of and had taken hogs out of there before. We arraived around 11:00pm and hiked what seemed like a near vertical slope on a muddy, slippery, narrow path. I distinctly recall hearing him say, "I think its this way". I suppose he had never found it in the dark. Anywho, we didnt arrive untill about 1:00 with the frost setting in and the water in the small stream was freezing by the second. Mind you we still had to set up camp.

Im no stranger to hiking a distance if needs be. Lord knows I could use the workout! And I would love to add a bear skin rug to my collection... what collection?

When you say A-zone deer, I wonder if you mean Liggett.

Im game to give anything a try once or twice to see how I like it.

I should probably specify that soutside of fowl, Im a strict archery hunter.

I've hunted Liggett in the past. Taken a deer & a few pigs.
There are other public areas too.

If you're interested in a (Deer/Bear) Sierra trip, the last weekend of Oct. & first weekend of Nov.
are in my plans. I'll be looking for pigs starting mid Nov.

Carrying a bow during general season sure adds to the difficulty.

I'm willing to talk to anyone interested in hunting on foot.
Want to talk?

Im always looking for public (or private if the opportunity presents itself) land to hunt. I just cant justify spending several hundred dollars on a private hunt if you arent guaranteed anything. I can NOT spend $300 and still go out and see nothing and I've lost nothing but time.

I dont have a tag for bear or deer this year. Depending where you are looking to go, I may be interested in going. I dont know if I have the setup to take a bear,
<
but hey, Im not one to scoff at such an opportunity. As always, hunting doesnt pay the bills (although it can stock the fridge and thus kill the food bill), I will have to see about all related financial aspects of getting either a deer or a bear. For right now, I have to say "Maybe" which wrenches my gut with regret. But who knows, things could just go like butter and I would be able to go. I just dont want to commit and then have to back out at the last second.

I love being an archer. The ability to harvest game in the same manner (although more advanced) as they did centuries ago is an awesome one. I have seen people take 1000 yd shots on elk and other game. And for me, thats just not hunting, thats killing. There is no hunt at 1000 yds, or maybe even at 500 yds. I just enjoy the challenge of having to get within 45 yds of an animal to harvest it. Its more personal that way. You can almost smell the animal, and you can hear its breathing. I could easily take a rifle and snipe a few critters (and I will with varmints), but theres a greater sense of satisfaction from sticking it with an arrow.

Im doing a solo hunt in mid Nov. for hogs at Lake Sonoma. I want to see how I faire on that hunt. I may suprise myself and keep going. Pigs are Farrell and cheap and huntable year 'round. My overall goal is to take every game animal in CA before I move onto other game. Thats more a choice of cost than actual hunting goal. If I had the chance (and $$$$) to do an alaskan moose hunt, or a white-tail hunt, I'd be on it like white on rice.

I am a hunter in the Bay Area as well. SImilar situation, 27 year old, married and happy as can be but with no real hunting buddies. I occasionally go out for Ducks, Turkey, & Deer with various friends but having someone more interested would always be appreciated. Where in the Bay Area are you? Ping me and lets start a dialogue.

Hey Thor,

Isnt it a frustrating thing to not have anyone to hunt with. It seems more and more today people are just not hunting. Its a real shame to lose such a tradition as this. Im located in the South-Bay in Santa Clara County. Some hunting here if you can get in good with a land owner.

Where do you hail from?

Just saw this post. I'm always looking for good people to get out and hunt with. I'm 38 married with 2 boys and a girl. Will hunt anything I can. Multi-day trips are hard for me due to family constraints but I make the most of my long days when i do get out. Not afraid to hump it as far as necessary to get to the game. I'm also always looking for closer hunting areas as to make the most of my time afield but am also open to making a trip farther out when my schedule permits.

Shoot me a pm or email and we can see about meeting up to talk hunting and try and get some trips set up.

Hey Red,

Right now, Im planning a scouting trip up to Lake sonoma for this Saturday to get the permit to hunt there, and also to scout some choice locations Ive heard hunters have had good harvests.

If you are available, I would like to have an additional set of eyes.

Hey Red,

Ive never tried duck hunting, but Ive heard its a blast... pun intended. Good luck on your hunt!! Let me know how it goes.

Its a great thing you are getting your children involved in hunting. I fully intend to do the same with my children.

Devin,

Thanks for the luck. This will be my first duck hunt so I'm really looking forward to it. We'll have to get together and shoot a few this year. As for getting my kids into it that was an absolute must it's the only way to keep the tradition alive. My sons love it but my daughter is not a big fan she does love fishing though so I guess batting .500 isn't that bad.

I'll be sure to let you know how we do.

Alright Gents. I live in So Cal but will drive to meet at any realistic area. Let me know in advance so I can plan. I would love to try duck, but really want to get into pig.

It can be frustrating, but I just keep looking. Maybe I need to expand my search out of San Francisco, where I currently live.

I am always open for scouting trips or hunting with some notice. So shoot me an email or PM and lets talk.

Red,

That sounds great! You'll have to tell me how you prepare them. I had a professor back in the day supply me with a few and the recipe he gave me just ruined the poor things. I hate wasting game- it makes the harvest of it just worthless. I'll have to run out and grab a duck stamp and polish the shotgun. I have access to a few that would do well for ducks.

Thor,

I know of guys who have hunting buddies out of state and open contact whenever they manage a tag and a trip. Networking for any reason is always a good idea. You never know when the contact will come in handy. I know some people who really came through for me when I never expected it.

My scouting trip had to be put off for a bit. Hopefully I can go the first week of November. Just a quick, one day trip. The real hunt will be the weekend prior to Thanksgiving- Im not sure how long it wil take to get a hog ham carved out, but if the butcher can do it quickly, it'll be on the table next to the butterball.

Im not sure what your style of duck hunting is... but Im game for trying anything once. It seems any hobby you take up takes most of your money.

Im reallly interested in trying duck hunting. In time, it would be great to get a dog to fetch for me... but thats some time down the road.

I'm definately up for a hunting buddy. I'm new to CA, 29 yrs old, married, etc...

In the Navy stationed down in Monterey, so I only have this year and next, but will hunt as hard as I can during that time. I hit El Dorado NF last weekend and saw plenty of does, but no headgear. I don't suspect I'll get any more deer hunting in this year (since it closes this weekend), but I'm open to bear hunting and anything else I can get a tag for! At the very least, maybe we can work out a plan of attack for the future. Shoot me an email.

I'M DK, I got your email but can't reply to it (it just came from the generic JHO emil address and your profile doesn't list an email). If you want to get in touch and work something out, shoot me another email with some contact info and we'll go from there. It' also possible that I am doing something wrong and am just a complete idiot!
