Here is a photo of the buck I took on opening morning of Period 2. Even though it was over quickly, it was a great hunt and my dad (in the photo) was able to join me.

I inserted a red arrow to point out the lava rock pile we were hiding in and glassing from at sunrise. As you can see, there was ZERO cover so I had to take the shot from there, a lasered 310 yards. No problem for my 300 Win Mag loaded with 150 grain Barnes TSX's at 3,350 fps. The buck went 14.5"

Sorry about the photo quality, my scanner is not the best.

Thanks!

Great looking goat, nice prongs on him. Where abouts in Lassen did you take him, I was actually driving through lassen on the weekend you shot him. We came through on Sunday after our X3B scouting trip. Again, great Antelope!

Very nice goat. Kind of reminds me of mine. Not outstanding on length, but great prongs and looks like nice mass as well. And nice shot as well by the way. Have you gotten it or plan on gettting it scored?

Thanks everyone. We took the head and cape to High Sierra Taxidermy in Chester, CA. I will call him and see what it scores.

Trying to get something over 14.5" in California is pretty difficult (especially on public land) so there was no way I was going to pass this antelope up. When we first got a good look at him, we guessed close to 15", so we were not too far off.

I shot the antelope only about 3 miles East of Hwy 395. It was about a 40 minute drive out of Susanville, heading North. We turned off a dirt road (I think it was Shin Road). The land looked pretty barren to me, but our friend had spotted this antelope the day before and felt confident that, due to the rut, he would stick around.

All in all, a great hunt. Now I just have to wait for 10 years before I can put in for another tag!

Sumba thats a nice goat. I have huntd deer up there 3 times, each time I have seen some really nice goats. Two years ago I watched one opening morning that would have gone 16" There are some monster deer in that country as well. Congradulations
