Lassen Period 2 success!!

Just got back in tonight from a great antelope hunt.

I was hunting California Zone 4 - Lassen, Period 2. Scouting paid off and at 7:26 AM on opening day (Saturday, August 4th) my antelope dropped from a 310 yard shot from my 300 Win Mag. I was shooting the 150 grain Barnes Triple Shocks at 3,350 fps.

He went 14 1/2" and 14 9/16" with great shape and a great look. My dad went with me and has all of the photos on his camera. Hopefully he will get them developed and sent down to me pretty soon. I will post the photo's as soon as I get them.

Congrats on the buck. I just got back from Likely Tables with a 12.5" buck but the work and time put into getting on him with all his does around made him a keeper. Should be pretty tasty too since he was full of alfalfa. I did edge ya out on the range by a whole 4 yards though.

Congrats on a great hunt as well. I got lucky, as we have a friend in Sunsanville that was able to do some scouting ahead of time. He had spotted the buck Friday morning and watched him herd a few does for a while.

On Saturday morning (opening day of Period 2), we spotted the buck about 6:30am from a very long distance away. We let him get over a ridge and then proceeded to move into position. We got settled in to a rock pile right as the sun came over the hills. We glassed for a while and at approx. 7:20am we spotted the buck at about 700 to 800 yards out. He was working his way towards us, so we let him keep coming. At 310 yards, I took the shot with my 300 Win Mag. I lost the sight picture due to the recoil, but quickly got back on target to see his front legs in the air. My dad said it was 7:26am when I shot. Made for a pretty quick, yet very successful hunt.

We skinned the antelope Saturday morning and had the cape & head to the taxidermist by early afternoon. Headed back down to Sacramento (where my dad lives) Sunday morning, took the meat to the butcher, and I flew home to So. Cal. Sunday afternoon. A great Labor Day weekend!

Anyway, my dad took all the photos and will hopefully get the film developed soon. As soon as I get the pictures, I will be sure to post them.
