Well I finally know that in being 1st alternate in the Likely Tables Period 2 Antelope is going to pay off for me………..but what a pain in dealing with the DFG.

First I would like to thank One Track (Brent), for giving me heads up that he wasn’t going to be purchasing his tag for the second period Likely Tables hunt as that heads up probably helped me get my tag…………and I would like to wish One Track good luck in chasing elk in Arizona.

Last Thursday morning after knowing the deadline was Monday the 11th for folks to purchase tags they had been drawn for, I was growing impatient in not hearing for DFG, and knowing full well that a tag had not been purchased I decided to place a call. Little did I expect to hear from the lady on the other end that all of the successful alternates had already been contacted by phone and if I didn’t get a call I wasn’t going to be getting a tag……….I was shocked!

I then proceeded to tell her that I had a friend that I knew hadn’t purchased a tag and if I was first alternate why wasn’t I getting a tag? She then takes my name and says we never received your application and payment back………I told her that cant be true as I mailed it the following day that I first received the Alternate letter. She then puts me on hold and comes back to the phone and there is a long pause and she says I have your application in my hand and it was post marked on the June 27 and we received it on the 29th………with July 11th being the cut off. I said ok now what’s the deal then, she says she will have to call me right back and we hang up……….talk about a sinking feeling.

I then for the next day and a half never heard back from the license and revenue branch, after I was told they would call me right back. I left three voice mails and must have tried calling 15 times. Finally mid day on Friday I got a call from DFG saying that there had been an error on their end and that I would be receiving a packet of information and a tag.

I didn’t ask what the error was, but my gut tells me it was bigger than just me and my tag……..heads up if someone else was an Alternate or if you know someone who was, you might want follow up with DFG.
Take care,

Dang. Glad you called. Have you received the tag yet? If not, I'll start calling too! I would not be surprised if there might have been a friend or an officer of the DFG that just happened to draw an alternate spot. With that said, all my dealing with the DFG have been good. I have yet to experience any below average service. I've noticed that the officers in the field have been very cordial and helpful. Now back in my younger days, well, that wasn't always the case, especially when it was 2am and I was hidin' in the brush with a fishin' pole.

Let us know how it's going.

JRKPintail I would call the San Francisco Chronicle and tell Tom Sientsra what you went through in order to get your tag. Because if you didnt call or didnt know that some one wasnt going like your buddy, you would of never received that tag. Real interesting story.

I dont know about making to big of a stink guys.......I would like to draw again sometime in California. It's hard enough to draw a premium tag, I dont want my odd's to get worst.
