I have the BPS 12 and have shot it a lot. Never had a problem with it not cycling shells properly. A great gun from my experience.

I've shot a BPS (in 20ga.) for about 10 years and have had zero problems with it. Probably have put 2000 rounds through it and am afraid I don't always keep up with the maintenance on it. Not a glamorous gun, but is dead reliable.

I thought the point was adding to the collection to make a set.......now you still need one, but the BPS'S are nice. Need to get the camo fixed. I have a SP10 I use on the WU props...but my new SBE II is starting to take up more field time. I'm sure you will be happy. 10 days to enjoy the pain.

Hey Sporticus,

Just a word of caution. My cousin just discovered that his BPS has(had) a plastic part somewhere in the action. Be careful what cleaner you use. And yes, they can jam. But an excellent and reliable gun overall.

As for the bottom eject, your blind partners will thank you!

goal # 1 was to get an affordable and useable 10 gauge that was not a single shot

goal # 2 is to complete the set

Enjoy the pounding recoil, that pump won't be much different than that bolt action, may be a little, but not much. Only 2's or T's are offered in the 10 gauge, why buy hevi-shot for it, remember your shooting a 10 gauge.

I want it more for adding to my collection then for hunting
I have followed this post, and now Im lost......You said you were looking to fill your collection.... seems to me, you were looking for a 10 gauge to hunt with. If so, just cut to the chase.......It doesnt matter to me either way, but if you want info on an afordable 10 gauge, this is the place to ask. You just need to ask....

BTW, please dont take that 10 gauge to any of the WU properties in So Ca. thinking that it gives you an excuse to sky bust..... If you want to sky bust, save money and hunt the sea or pull off the 111 and go at it. I use decoys for a reason, I would hope you do too.......

I wanted a 10 gauge, I would of preferred to get just 1 and have it be something I can use for waterfowl for a LONG time. The Marlin is not the right gun due to it not being specifically designed for modern steel shot. I began to change my mind upon acquiring that info

this BPS is designed for steel, is already CAMO-ed, and is a pump, not a bolt, and it was cheaply priced, IMO

so i bought it

If i see a Marlin 10 somewhere I will examine the situation and consider purchasing it. I have family in PA who are looking for 1, I'd rather have my brother get 1 for me back there and then hand it over to me next time i go back there. Buying in CA or online adds an extra $70 - $110 to the price tag

If you are going to preach to me then perhaps you should be properly certified 1st. I don't know where some people get off throwing accusations and comments like yours around. Where the hell did i insinuate that i did/would/will/or was skybusting ? What i do is my business anyways

you should get a license to preach your theories

You get what you pay for here on this site or any other site like this!!

You make it 'our' business by posting up and asking for advice.

If you can't handle the replies, don't ask the question.....

I have a BPS 10 that I have been using for years without problems. The meanest goose load I have found is actually #4 Remington Hevishot Turkey loads. I shoot them through a Truglo TG154 extra full, hevishot approved choke tube. Devastating.

I assume thats all legal. I have been looking for a choke tube online and can't find anything, are you saying a turkey tube + hevi shot can legally be used for waterfowl ?

If so then I will try to follow your advise and try to get the same setup.

http://consumer.gzanders.com/index.php?itemnumber=TG154

http://consumer.gzanders.com/

found this commentary on it -- TruGlo Strutt Stopper Choke Tube, TG154: This is the only choke out there. You'll be shooting soccer ball spreads from 50 yards. Ported and works great with heavi-shot. Birds have died at 75 yards because of this choke and the right ammo, see next.

http://www.gamaliel.com/cart/customer/prod...id=765&cat=1222

http://www.wingsupply.com/shop/Scripts/pro...KU.asp?SKU=TG17

found all that info but no TG154 witha price tag, I'll keep digging

http://www.discounthuntingsupply.com/ssl/s...SKU.asp?SKU=I10

I was going to get this one after checking with a gunsmith for compatability, this gun is an older one i think

I also found a nice selection of 10 gauge tubes on this site, scroll half way down for the 5 or 6 10 gauge tubes

http://www.gunaccessories.com/ChokeTubes/Browning.asp

trouble is, nothing says steel, waterfowl, or Hevi-Shot compatability

do you need a special tube for shooting hevi-shot ?

Could I get just 1 choke for turkey and waterfowl and just use Hevi Shot for waterfowl so as to stay legal ? Thats all I would use this gun for. More so for waterfowl, mainly geese, i'd prefer to have just 1 tube

-------------------------------

hey mudhen

please show me where i asked his or anyones advise on skybusting ?

I don't get the concept where waterfowl hunters think they have some gawd given right to preach, throw out accusations , and/or put themselves up on a pedestal above others.

My questions were

# 1 - where can i get a Marlin Supergoose 10

# 2 -- now that i have a BPS where can i get an effective choke

Never mentioned that i think i can shoot further UP with this gun or that i would.

??? Why would HeviShot + a turkey tube not be legal for waterfowl ???

Alas, in life and in the duck blind, you don't always get what you ask for.

This is a great place, especially for the price!

I am new to CA hunting and this state micro-manages everything in the field, also never used or ever laid my eyes on Hevi Shot as of yet, that i know of, so that is why i ask for further clarrification.

So all Hevi Shot is legal for waterfowl ?

and can Hevi Shot be fired from any tube ?

===================================

PIPELINE is adequate if all you want to do is goose hunt in the early AM or last hour of the day.

from what i saw that day --- you need to be closer to the road in the AM and further from the road in the PM

hide in the hay, I even got up on several bales so as to not skybust anything, probably could of shot more and better if I had the right choke in my gun at the time

other guys did better

Next year, in mid season, I'll hunt walts or hazard from AM to 3 or 3:30 then jump to Pipeline if possible for the last hour or so as long as i had some duck success earlier and the possibility of geese coming to where i am is slim

Hevi Shot is kinda funny.

It is very hard and can take some work to get good patterns.

It does not always like real tight turkey chokes.

But, it basically knocks the stuffing out of the birds once you get it dialed in.

The best place to read up on it is:

www.hevishot.com

They discuss choke tubes and shooting their shot in general.

Good luck!

Truglo makes a choke tube for the BPS 10 that is designed for Hevi-Shot. www.truglosights.com. I have used this tube with hevi-shot #4's for two seasons and it works excellent. Hevi-shot is approved with the US Fish and Wildlife Service as a non-toxic shot.
