I don't have one, have never hunted with them either. I've got roughly a 4.0 average over the past two seasons. Now granted, that doesn't mean squat. I'm just getting lucky enough to put myself where the birds are that day. I'm a decent caller, but nothing spectacular. I also don't go all that often either, so I'm sure that the average is blown up a little. I've only been out (6) times this year alone. However, I don't believe that I would be taking anymore birds, or better yet, enjoying myself anymore, if I had robo..............I like it the way it is

My views are identical with Colusaduckhunter's outlook and I could'nt of said it better. TO make all things equal no more than a dozen standard size dee-ks per group of hunters with only one person duck calling. Don't forget to limit the size of the shotgun to a single shot 410 . When will the madness end!!!

"I would love to see it go back to the old ways where you actually have to use your skills to hunt. I don't know if that's going to happen anytime soon..."

I have to agree Coulusaduckhunter. But I think the big differance in the good old days was fewer large resting areas,( and better habitat in the hunting areas) that is what we are really competing with. Most of the birds hit the closed zones and that is it, a few stragglers cruise through the shooting areas and we compete like hell for their attention. If you rotated those areas and had more feed in the hunting areas etc... things would improve, mojo or not. I have not hunted the Sac. area much but down in the Grasslands the hunting has not gotten better (private or public) with the aquisition of more land by the USFWS, even though we have a few more places to hunt. Almost makes 15 years ago look like the good old days.

PS if we did go back to the old days forget the decoys, all I want is one live duck

If everyone wants the quality of hunting we now just experience in our memories there has to be something done about all the land that is being purchased for "conservation" without hunting being part of the plan. We are the ones footing the bill here and we are being left out in the cold. DU is supported almost entirely by hunters yet what are they doing to improve the opportunities for us? Everytime another piece of property is set aside by DU there is just more habitat for the ducks to avoid the hunters. Now I'm all for having non shoot areas but it is now to the point thet these birds have imprinted all the way down the flyway and can be totally sustained by the feed available on "no-shoot" areas. Think about if you were a duck. All the feed you need is on the closed zones, nobdy is trying to kill you there, there is more and more of it every year........Why would you ever fly anywhere near a "shoot zone" of a refuge where there is little feed, less habitat and 100 guys shooting at you everytime you came within 75 yards of the ground. DU does some great things but they are part of the problem in my opinion. They need to do more to provide shooting oportunities for those that have suupported them.

Wow this subject is everywhere.
If you want to use one use it. If you don't want one don't
Does the hunter need a roto to compete?
It depends on the hunter.
Do I need one to compete for ducks? No
Does this roto make me a better hunter? No
Do I like seeing others using the roto. Yes
I like it when the ducks get spooked by the guy using the roto next to me
and those ducks fly into my deeks
The same can be said for that hunter. The ducks might not like the pattern of my
deeks and be more attracted to that moto.
Either way someone is going to get some ducks
Hopefully me
