I called two of the guides I was talking about. One can't guide for awhile due to wife/marriage issues, the other one is still guiding and has two good ranches for pigs. One is Glenville and is $395 (a bit more than last time I talked to him but still a good price). That hunt he guarantees you'll see pigs. The other is out off Bitterwater road and is $600. He guarantees you'll get a shot. I haven't been on the Glenville ranch but I've hunted on other properties near it. I've been on the Bitterwater ranch on exotic hunts and have seen pig hunters come back with pigs. It's a big ranch with a lot of rolling hills. If anyone is interested, shoot me an email and I'll give you the guide's number and you can ask him what the difference is among the two hunts. I'm not connected with the guide other than having several clients bring me animals to mount and saying really good things about him. I just think the more people get hunts for lower costs the more it will bring down the prices for everyone else so I like to pass on info. Also, I know Ole Boys in Bakersfield has access to the Twissleman ranch near the Bitterwater ranch. You might want to call them and see how much their hunts are.
One scouting trip and you found pigs...dang, you should play the lotto.

No luck baby was sick so morning hunt was out but made it out for the evening and didnt see a thing. I did check for tracks and all kinds of fresh sign but i missed them on my first try. Hope to get out again in the next few weeks kinda buried at work just see what i can make happen
stay with them and you will get one sooner or later. You can't kill them from home, so great you were able to get out.

Ok finally made it back out and YES guys it is possible to shoot pigs on public land if your willing to do the work there is no reason to spend that kind of money. Got lucky and ended up with 2 today but yes it was alot of work thats why i love hunting I know theres all kinds of you going to talk crap untill i get pics but will get them on as soon as i can. PS I shot these pigs in jeans and a red shirt and orange hat if your not bow hunting put the damn hunter orange on so i can and everyone else can see you. good luck to the guys willing to do the hard work.

congrats always like seeing someone put people in there place lol. i am one of those people that have paid for a hunt and probably would do it again just for the simple fact that there isnt any public land near me thats open yr round to hunt pigs. but hey i agree paying 600+ dollars is outrages when i spent a summer in texas 2 yrs ago people were just beggin me to come kill hogs at there ranches and these people hunted! fellow hunters letting other hunters hunt on there land truly amazing people if only people were like they were there. BUT not knocking guides cuz hey lets b real guides make it to where people that dont have a lot of time can take their family (fathers, sons, grandfathers. ect) and have a really good chance at killing something and continuing on with the past time we all love and thats what its all about

I agree with dkhuntr... The people in Texas are the kindest people I've encountered on my many cross country trips. Texas also has a hunting, fishing, outdoor atmosphere that makes the state a great place to stay or live.
Dkhunter i see where your coming from to a point but i dont have much time to spend out there if you get skunked thats hunting love the outdoors and knowing you gave it your best. I think what alot of people have forgotten is its called hunting not killing granted i love killing and eating but thats not all its about my daughter is 9 months when shes old enough to walk i'll be taking her to the field and teaching her. Do you really think its about paying a guide big bucks to show her a good time or making the best of it spending time with each other and teaching a kid the right way not wanting to argue just how i see it. In my eyes this world is getting way to gready and this pay to play is getting out of hand your right there are aot of low lifes out there that cut fences and tear up the land there always will be BUT i think if more hunters would be given the chance to hunt it would make more ethical hunters not needing to cut fences hence my feelings about guides ruining the sport we love so much. just my two cents

Do you realize all pay hunts are not guided? Some are just a tresspass fee. And just because you pay does not mean a slam dunk. I have payed to play non guided hiked my a$$ off and came home empty handed because just like public land I found the sign but always seemed to just miss them. Pigs are the only thing I will pay to hunt because Like DK said we have very limited land out here to hunt for them.
I do understand that but isnt it right to teach your kids to work there butts off and love the sport and being outdoors. Why pay when you can go out work your butt off and teach the kids or yourself your dont have to fork over money to get it done. People are WAY to lazy anymore want there quads or bikes wont walk its pathetic.

I have two daughters 10 and 13 and both have been dragged through the hills chasing deer with me many times. I just cant understand your take on a paid hunt. You keep The paid hunt I go on is archery only. 4000 acers and no fences keeping game on the property. The owner does not through you in his truck and run down pigs. He tells you some areas to try and you go for it! You hunt your butt off and most of the time I have come home with nothing more then knowing I worked my butt off I spent the weekend on a great ranch and had a great time doing what I love.

are u aware that just cuz its a guided hunt doesnt mean its fenced? and i totally agree on the world being greedy especially here in cali although there are many good guides that charge a reasonable fee there are also many out there who charge upwards of 600 i even saw a hog hunt for 1100 dollars for 2 days of hunting. and its sad because i remember when u could go almost anywhere in the state pay 300 bucks and kill a pig but now there are a lot of people out there charging way way to much for a hog. and about working hard and finding the pigs on ur own there just isnt enough public land around where i live to get out there and kill a hog at least not this time of yr the nearest public land doesnt open up again until 2nd week of july. i just dont like dealing with all the yahoos that call themselves hunters on public land that just ruin it for the rest of us hunters. for all of u that have hunting most public land in cali you guys know the people im refering to. the people to leave trash everywhere beer cans ect and just dont have any respect for anyone else in the woods

Can't wait to see the pigs. Anyone who can go to public land, find a spot with some sign then go there twice after working 80 hours a week and kill not ONE but TWO pigs has either got really good luck or some mad skill...Post up those pics!
