I forgot to add a Pine Flat screen-save from maptrails State Explorer software. The Section Lines are the key to mapping rural property, becasuse the property will follow the geometry and shape of the Township lines. (1/8 - 1/4 - 1/2 - etc) Hope you Fresno guys get it figured out, because it costs too much for gas to drive over there.

If the BLM maps are posted on the Internet I haven’t found them yet. The image that I posted above is a Screen-Save made while State Explorer software had a BLM Surface Management Map loaded. The BLM and USGS maps are not copyright, so it’s okay to pass them around. The actual BLM maps are paper maps that maptrails had scanned and saved on a DVD for use in their State Explorer software. (in their own format!) The BLM paper maps can be purchased from the Geological Survey and are dated 1979. Before hunting on BLM land we hunters must check with the BLM Office to find out if the property is open to hunting.

Below is an image from Google Earth with an overlay that I made showing the smaller BLM Plat boundary in heavy black lines. (My own Shape to .KML overlay) Notice the trail that passes very close to the corner of the BLM. I doubt if a property owner can stop a hunter from using an established route that is shown on USGS maps and also tiger census lines? But of course, I chickened-out during my last visit, and glad I did! I would check with the governing BLM Office first before setting foot anywhere at Pine Flat Reservoir.

Here is the larger BLM Plat with a (.KML) overlay on Google. When I zoom-in on the far end by the fish hatchery I can see a couple of houses. BLM must has sold off a piece?

Don't know why I can't start a new thread. Everytime I try to, I keep getting an error message only. So I apologize in advance for using someone else's thread to ask a totally off topic question.

Can anyone recommend a ranch or two that's closest to Fresno that does pig hunting. I don't care if it's a guided hunt or a hunt I do on my own. I also want the hunt to be as cheap as possible and when I say cheap, I mean something below the $200 range. Money is tight nowadays especially with the high gas price. Please help.

No problem, becasue I have read a lot about hog hunting at Pine Flat Res and wanted to get to the bottom of it. I found recent BLM data that was posted last year showing the large BLM Plat much smaller. Guess, they sold off the long arm and bow-tie sections and they are now private property? Notice the trails at the bottom of the Google map. It looks like that is the place where hunters have been entering the BLM?

If anyone wants the (.kml) file for those Plats I will email them. All you have to do is use the File Menu of Google Earth and load the (.klm) file and it will fly across the globe to Pine Flat Res and blunk it down .

I was on some public land around Pine Flat yeaterday and didn't see a thing! Hotter than heck and drier than a popcorn fart! I was scouting for deer over by Tamarack and decided to check out Pine Flat. Have a D7 tag for deer this year. I am always looking forward to meeting fellow hunters and BS'ing.

Love to trade stories, tactics, strategies etc. Did the Hooters thing ever happen?

I was also out at pine flat yesterday trying to land a pig or two but didn't come across a single thing. I was out there from 2pm to 9pm. Drove to a few places and played the waiting game but yet, nothing came out. It's just too darn hot. I met another hunter out there from Dinuba who showed me a picture of a monster hog he shot a few weeks ago at some private place. The darn thing was as long as his toyota bed and must have been pushing 350lbs.
Around 8:30 and no pigs in sight, I drove along the river on the D7 side and came across two very young buck. Both had spikes only and not legal yet. Seeing those two deer wants me to make the archery season for D7 come sooner. Maybe there is a legal buck there somewhere. Anyhow, when does the archery season open up for D7 and D8?

Just wondering? Did the maps that I posted help you guys? If I were to drive over to Pine Flat Res I would check that narrow ravine that looks like a ditch running up through the middle of the larger BLM parcel. Looks good with a river at one end.

Mapmaker, The maps did help me get a perspective on where the BLM land is. I'll tell you, I used to have a house in North Fork and we used to go to Oakhurst to the Ranger Station and buy BLM maps for $1.00 each. Now you either have to order online or find on somewhere else. Thanks again for the help. I hope to meet some of the members here soon!
