I was just wondering how the point sistem works for antelope. I got drawen about three year ago. I have to wait seven more year to apply agian, so I will be seven year behind everybody else in points. If that is right I have a lot more than ten year to draw agian. You should be able to draw a point but not be in the draw to be fair. Do any of you people any thing about this.

trinitycounty,
That's the way I read it. It says if your on the ten year waiting list you can't get any points. So when your off the list in seven years you start from scratch. Unless they have a doe hunt, it says you can put in for that. I hope you did got one when you drew!

Thanks for the reply. I got drawen for an archery tag and didn't get one. Looks like a long time before I get another chance at another tag. I think that DFG should drop the ten years to be drawen thing. I haven't done the math on it yet but with the points system it should police it self. With most zones it should take more than ten years to be able to draw a tag. But on the other hand the people that haven't been drawen for a tag in the last ten year or have never been drawen this very good thing for them.

I am waiting to apply in 05. I have no heartburn about the wait. Note that the % to the random draw is higher, so you could get lucky the first year. One thing I wonder about is why there is no wait on elk, but there is one on antelope? I think they should do a wait on elk too. Sheep is once in a lifetime.

I don't think I or anybody that is in there ten year wait should get to draw but should be able to get a point each year until they can draw. The people that got of there ten year wait last year are in the max point pool and have a chance at 90% of the tags. The people with there ten years up this year will be in the draw for 10% of the tags, it would be 45 years on avrege be for they would be in the max pool, is that fair? That is the way the chips have fallen. It's hard to make a system that will make everybody happy. The biggist problem is to few tag. I do think everybody should have a chance at hunting anteloe in ca. Maybe the people that have never been draw should have got one more point than the people that have been draw,is that fair? They would think so. With the elk draw they all started out with the same chance, even if they were draw the year before or have never been draw. I have never been draw for elk but still think this is fair. Lets face it the only people that are happy with any system is the ones with a tag in hand. As with other posts in this fourm I hope they stay with this system now that it is here.

Well, at least we did get to draw a tag. Some never do. I think it is fair to have a wait apply to points too. Other states with waiting periods after drawing do the same (WY, MT,CO for sheep, moose, etc). It is 25% random draw for antelope, not 10%. Really though, a sheep, or tule elk is really unique. Antelope can be hunted just about every year you want if you are willing to drive to WY or MT, for a tag that is only about twice the $100 price. I do not see where the antelope tag is that big of a deal.

I read a little deeper and see that it is 25% not 10% one should read the reg before saying to much, at 25% that gives you a fair chance to draw.As far as going out of state I can't I am single with to teenage boys, I can't affored to take them with me and I can't affored to let them stay home. so that will have to wait a few year. I have a friend that live in mt and wants to come up and hunt with him, the elk is I want to go for but he said the ranches he works on have lots of antelope on them too. It's still nice to hunt close to home.
what zone did you get drawen for and did you get one. I drew mt dome ao and didn't getone but had lot of fun trying.we whated at fence xing while one of the other bozzo try to chase them down in his pickup and shoot out of the back.

I had Round Valley in 95. I got a nice buck. I had some car trouble, so I missed the first few days of the hunt. The one thing I did not like was the fact that it was so hot in August. I enjoy the WY October antelope hunts I have been on more.
