Purcasing license & tags

Do you purchase your license and tags/applications from your home computer or do you go to the local sporting goods store? I am amazed at how many of my fiends/relatives still go to Big 5 or Wal Mart to purchase tags and license. I will admit that occasionally I will pick up a tag if I am in a hurry at a local store but 90% of the time everything is done on line from our home computer. In my experience the people behind the counter are way more likely to make a mistake on your tag applications than you are at home. I have a brother that will not buy them from home and a couple of years ago the store made a mistake and put him in for D3-5 as first choice so he lost his points (he only had 1) on an over the counter tag. I wonder how often that happens. I think it could be corrected but he didn't bother and the person behind the counter had no idea what to do.

I just finished my application and got our party number while drinking my morning coffee. Just too easy to do from home (or anywhere that has a access).

Once the person submitting the tag/application finalizes it, those points are gone for good. The only time I go into the store to purchase, is when I need it right away, which really is only pig tags, since you can print a temporary hunting and fishing license from your home computer. My guess is that plenty of mistakes happen to those purchasing from a store, such as using the first deer aplication for a persons intended second tag zone.

I sort of thought the same thing on once the mistake was made you lost all those points. Since it was only one point he didn't get too upset. The problem is he should have received a second point that year and he did not so that really puts you 2 points behind. I am with you Bubble I have purchased a fishing license or 2 and tags at the local store because I wanted to go fishing or pig hunting now (although I have fished on the temp one). Tags like bear or pig are about the only thing that makes sense to just buy over the counter if you are in a hurry.

I do expect to get our first choice on the draw since we have an average of one full point more than the minimum it took to get that tag last year. Point creep should not be one full point. Second tag will depend on getting the first choice and if we decide to hunt a different zone this year.

I am not sure what's going to happen to first choice draws this year. What I mean is that since the introduction of mandatory deer tag reporting (last year being the first year), some of the success rates have changed. Now I can not say that those changes are due to the reporting, or just a fluke possibly tied to specific zone conditions during the season. But some success rates have gone up considerably. As such, I would expect some applicants to reconsider their zone choices. My guess is that some zones will experience added point creep due to this. I would also bet that over time, this added point creep will iron itself out.

I was reading, a few months ago, that the median age of hunters in California is 57. I was stunned and wondered the accuracy of that number and what it means for hunting in CA. However, it may point to the question as to why a person would rather go to a counter than use a computer.

Computer On-line for my license and A31 tag, I usually get my second deer tag, pig and bear tags over the counter.
sounds about right I'm 57, the youngest of my group is in his forties, Until my Grandson starts and the youngest will be 12!
