I only have one traditional bow(for now)

Bear Super Kodiak 55#@28"

I might as well list my compounds(even though they probably won't be shot much anymore)

Darton Viper 55-70#
Oneida Eagle 40- 65# Took my first deer with this one
Ben Pearson Pro Staff 25-45# First Bow ( I let a friend borrow it a couple of years ago for his daughter, I guess he still has it)
An old Bear child's bow 15-25# Not sure what model

Chad Weaver, back in the sticks of Northeast MS. I have owned several bows (had 30-something at one time), and still do a little swapping now and then, but my main (99.5% of the time) shooter is my Chek-Mate Crusader-- 66", 66@30.5. Cocobolo riser, yew limbs, Dynaflight '97 string, cedar arrows. I usually go to several shoots in the summer, and plan on being at the Kentucky Klassic, Twin Oaks, Cloverdale, Jerry Pierce Memorial, ASTB Children's Hospital Benefit, AL State Traditional Championship, and TX State Longbow Championship.

Well, I posted about a year ago when this thread first started (day before Valentine's 2002), but at the time I didn't have a bow.

Since then, by brother sent me my dad's old Ben Pearson Spectre recurve (45#@28"). I shot that, and carried it for my first archery season. Saw a legal buck, but at 30-35 yards, I didn't feel comfortable trying it. Glad I didn't, because the thrill I got out of that first bowhunt made me an addict for life.

For Christmas this year, my wife told me she'd kick out a couple hundred toward a new bow. I took her couple hundred and added a little more, and touched base with Chad Weaver (LBR - posted above) to end up with a nice take-down recurve. Chad sells Chek-mate bows, but I think (correct me if I'm wrong, Chad), this is made by one of the Chek-mate guys, but isn't a Chek-mate brand? It's 52#@28", but it draws easier and smoother than that Pearson that I was shooting.

I'm totally in love with the bow, and have pretty well eaten up a McKenzie target with it. No game yet, but it's spoiling for that first good opportunity!

By the way, Songdog was talking about quivers a while back. I have a bow quiver on the Pearson, but decided to get a nice handmade back quiver to carry with the new bow. Recurveshooter just happens to make a really nice quiver (and some other archery products)... kind of as a side to his baking business. We chatted, and now I have a sweet back quiver. It's not as quiet as a Cat quiver, and not as handy as the bow quiver... but it looks pretty cool, and with a little care ought to serve me well for as long as I can draw a string.

Hi fellow bow shooters!

I just got back into archery about 1 1/2 years ago. Picked up a "Q2" and began to get reaquainted. Lucky for me, one day I shot a friends Black Widow recurve. Shortly therafter my "Q2" was sold and I ordered a
62" 53# @ 28" MA Takedown Recurve. Haven't looked back since. Also picked up a 64" 55# Black Widow Take Down Longbow. I shoot the longbow now and find it a good choice.
I'm located in So Cal in Orange County. We have a bunch of clubs here and there is a 3D somewhere close each month. Only got out to hunt once during this time though. Went to a POR at Tejone. Had a great time. Got a good shot at a fat sow running at 30 yards. The 2018 and Magnus 2 blade 125 gr. broadhead went just under her chest. I hate to miss, but I was thrilled to have gotten a shot off. See Jan Pig-O-Rama under Hogs and havelina. Entries by hronk and myself. Too long winded tonight. Take care All and Good shooting! Tom

I am from central Wyoming. I hunt with everything including hangun, rifle, longbow, recurve, and compound. I dabble in trapping and am currently starting to hunt with hounds. I hunt elk, deer, and pronghorn every season. I also hunt birds, small game, turkey, and varmits. I fish, flyfish, icefish, and bowfish.

Hi everyone! Thanks Jesse, for creating a traditional forum. PowDuck, I have seen you at the Hunting.Net Traditional Forum as well.

Ok, lets see. My primary bow is currently a Chek-Mate Hunter II, 60" 57#@27" bubinga/shedua riser with red elm limbs & a high-wrist grip. I use a Leather Selway bowquiver and shoot Magnus or Zwickey 125 grain two-blades on 2018 XX75 shafts with 3 five-inch shield cut feathers or 4 four-inchers, though I actually prefer wood shafts, truth be told. So much for my bow of the moment, here is a list of my other bows:

1. 1970 Bear Super Kodiak RH 64" 55#@28", low serial number & beautiful
2. 70s era Bear Super Mag RH 48" 40#@28"
3. 70s era Bear Minuteman t/d RH 58" 50#@28"
4. 70s era Wing Red Wing Hunter LH 58" 45#@28"
5. Martin Hunter LH 62" 50#@28
6. Martin Signature Nighthawk RH 62" 65#@28"
7. Martin Hatfield (long riser) t/d RH 66" 55#@28"
8. Thunder Mountain Flatbow RH 64" 50#@28"

My kids shoot a Blackhawk longbow & Bear Black Bear recurve.

My bride isn't into archery, but she wonderfully, at times reluctantly, tolerates my stickbow interests. She is the best! Has to be to put up with me for 19 years now.

Bob Urban Here "Bushbow" and I am rather new to this forum but I do recognize a few names from the Leatherwall Forum. I shoot a multitude of bows depending on the feeling I get before going out that day ranging from custom takedowns to Home brew osage stick bows.

I like to make bows, arrows and stone points and have taken game with complete homemade set ups right down to the novacalite arrowhead. Currently I am shooting a couple of Bighorn Take downs with Wensel Woodsman heads. A Great Northern Ghost with Grizzly 190's and a Northern Mist reverse handle bow with Snuffers. I also have a take down Great northern Bush bow that will see some use this season when I head to a spot that require a long hike in.

You can see my mug shot on the Wensel Woodsman we sight if you are interested in knowing what I look like. I would add a photo but am not that computer savy. I do own a digital camera and if I ever learn how to work it I will post picks of my bows and stuff.

I am by no means an expert but I have made quite a few Osage self bows, sinew backed recurves and such and would be willing to help anyone who ask. I find working with an osage stave easier that a board bow, osage kind of directs you to the bow inside. At least that has been my discovery.

Great sight - Bob Urban

Right now I am shooting a BlackWidow Recurve, 62" 53# @ 28". I also have a Black Widow Long Bow, 64" 55# @ 28". Sold all my "compounds' 2 years ago.
Friends ask why, and I tell them, give it an honest try and see what happens. Might be surprising. I am in So CA, Orange Co. Like to hunt hogs and deer. Love those Pig-O-Ramas on Tejon Ranch! See you out there. TK

Hi guys. My name is Erick Schaefer and I was born and raised in Maine. I have been shooting recurves since I was 7 years old. By my calculations that makes 27years. My current bow is a Blacktail Elite TD that draws 67# at 27". I currently shoot 2219's with the Wensal Woodsman and hopefully by the end of the season I can tell you how they work on deer. I look forward to swaping info with you guys.

New to the traditional archery aspect of hunting.
Just aquired an old Ben Pearson "Filly" glass lam recurve 45# and hope to get to use it next season. Wanted to get away from the "training wheels"!
Learning to widdle my own bows from osage, one complete but not usable- one limb is too crooked. Looks nice though!
Thanks to many of you for your help, I am now making my own Flemish strings!!!
It truely is pretty easy!
Happy Trails,
H4D

I see this post has been here for some time, I just wanted to get my name in here, I'm a recurve shooter, have been for about 12 years now. Well, I should say, I'm back shooting a recurve after years of shooting a compound. I started out bowhunting when I was 14, my brother gave me a Browning Nomad Stalker. Hunted for years then made the mistake of going to a compound. now I'm back, and it brought the fun back nto shooting a bow. I now shoot a Black widow, MAII, I own 3 of them. I've taken many Whitetails, some Caribou and Bears with it, Oh, can't forget the little critters, raccoons, groundhogs, pheasants, rabbits and some squirrels.

I'll post some photo's as soon as I can figure out what I'm doing wrong...

good to meet the "real" bowhunters!

Shoot straight, and as always, Good Hunting!!!!

Hey guys,

Sorry for the late post. Chopper turned me on to these forums a few months back and I'm just getting familiar with them.

Grew up in Ohio (yes, an Ohio State alum)
Live in Nor Cal (Mountain View)

Favorite Bow: 58" Tomahawk Diamond Series SS Takedown 60 lbs @ 28

My draw is 27

Arrows: Easton Legacy 2018's with 150grain points (150 broadhead or 145 field point with 5 grain washer) and Easton Legacy 2016's with 125grain broadheads/points

I've been using the 2018's with the 150 point set up for the past few months getting ready for this weekends hog hunt at Chopper's place.

I'll probably switch back to the 2016's later this summer, getting ready for Ohio's deer season.

Favorite Quiver: "The Classic" back quiver by Steven Catts, the Leathersmith
http://www.hidehandler.com
Steve customized it for me with an arrow divider and a nice sheath he made for my marble caper knife. The sheath is attached to the lower end of the quiver strap, so it sits below my ribs, out of the way of the string. Nice quiver.

I have a Mid size Hill Style quiver on order from American Leathers (John Schulz' son). Looking forward to seeing that one soon.

For hunting, I use the Side Stalker with the sheath of my Silver Stag Alaskan Camper knife attached/strapped to it (for pigs)

Glove: Currently using American Leathers' Big Shot Glove with a little wind dust as glove powder.

Field Knife: Marble's Plainsman

Pack/field care bag: Depends on how far from home base I'm hunting. When on relatives/friend's property near their houses, I use a leather possibles bag from October Country. Farther out or on public lands, I'll use a Cabela's fanny pack.

Longbowmen I admire: Denny Sturgis Jr., John Schulz, Byron Ferguson

Recurvers I admire: G. Fred Asbell, Ken Beck

Person/s I'm looking forward to meeting: Orso and Speckmisser at Chopper's place this weekend.
