I had a little bonus hunt along with my normal pheasant/goose hunt in the Dakotas this year. I got drawn for a tag south of Gilette WY. It was more work than I anticipated. 3 weeks into season and they are just a BIT on the spooky side.

Nothing like belly crawling through cactus and trying to hide behind 8 inches of sage. I eventually came across a shootable buck and took him. 12 inches, not a monster by any means but I was well satisfied by him. The backstraps taste just fine as well. I have heard some horror stories on the palatability of goat venison. This one is not strong at all. Possibly due to a diet high in grain!

I look forward to chasing a trophy goat sometime soon!

Yhunter, the pheasant hunting was very good as ususal. Sharps seemed to be up as well. Huns were mediocre at best and the geese (snows) had already headed south. I only managed one Canadian.

Paul,

I HAD a couple of pix. I put the CD in my computer and it came out scrambled. I had to have my buddy email me his copies and then I will post it.

Dakota: Congrats on the goat. Antelope meat is great if you clean and cool down the meat right away. I think most people leave them in the truck all day and wonder why it is gamey or strong tasting. Keep after them and you will get a monster..............Allen

Congrats Dakota! I'venever hunted them before but I did spend a month out west just checking things out once and saw a ton of them, and the rough (hunting wise) terrain they live in.
