Just accepted a job in Slana beginning in late may and running through end of September. I won't have the facilities for any big game hunting, but think I'm going to bring along the trusty 12 gauge and see if I can get into some upland birds. With that being said, anybody have any tips/advice for the area? I've only ever bird hunting in CA and AZ for ducks, geese, quail, chukar, and dove and I know Alaska is a whole different ball game. Would appreciate any tips/advice... oh and I won't have a dog either.

Make sure it’s a 3.5 inch magnum for the bears and bring a fishing pole . Looks like an adventure. Sorry no real advice. But looks like lots of water ducks, fish, grouse of some sort I guess

I did some Sheep hunting there some years ago. You will have the Nebesna Road to hunt and fish from. There is lots of good Greyling fishing around. And there are lots of Grouse there also.

A 12 guage would be good Bear defence, Black and Grizz bear live there. 3 1/2 half inch mag I don't think would be necessary. Be sure and read the ADF&G regs for the area, as well as the defence of life rules. There are also restrictions in the area for the Wrangell / St Alias National Park. There are special hard park rules but lots of huntable & fishable area.
