Hatchet, I'm shooting the 200gr boat tail TSX. Handloading all the way, not too hot...about 65grains of H4350. No idea what kind of velocity I'm getting there, but it shoots pretty dang good. Nine rounds in about 2", with the best group of three all touching at 100 yards. I think that'll do.
<

As for the storm, my fingers are crossed so tight they hurt, and from the most recent NOAA website updates, we might get a break... but the weather is still real unsettled, so it's a big wait and see. I'll be very sad if they cancel...

On that chance, is anybody here who couldn't do Feb 15-17?

I'd hate to push into March, but that's a possibility too.

Severe Weather Alert

Winter Storm Warning

/O.EXT.KHNX.WS.W.0002.000000T0000Z- 080124T2000Z/ /O.CON.KHNX.WS.A. 0003.080124T2000Z-080126T0000Z/ KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS- WED JAN 23 2008
...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM PST THURSDAY FOR THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS... ...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS...

THE WINTER STORM WARNING FOR THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM PST THURSDAY. A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

A COLD STORM SYSTEM OFF THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST WILL CONTINUE TO BRING A SUBSTANTIAL SNOWFALL TO THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS THROUGH TONIGHT ALONG WITH LOCALLY STRONG AND GUSTY WINDS. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ALONG SOUTH FACING SLOPES OF THE TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS AND IN THE FRAZIER PARK...CUDDY VALLEY AND MOUNT PINOS AREAS.

SNOW WILL CONTINUE INTO THIS EVENING AND BY THE TIME SNOW DIMINISHES TO FLURRIES LATER ON...TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 15 INCHES WILL OCCUR ABOVE 4500 FEET WITH 1 TO 4 INCHES ACCUMULATING AT ELEVATIONS AS LOW AS 3500 FEET.

ADDITIONALLY...LOCALLY STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

ANYONE PLANNING TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS THIS EVENING SHOULD BE ALERT FOR SLIPPERY ROADS... AND POSSIBLE ROAD DELAYS OR CLOSURES. CARRY CHAINS AND A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT. SOME OF THE MAJOR HIGHWAYS AFFECTED INCLUDE HIGHWAY 58 THROUGH TEHACHAPI PASS AND INTERSTATE 5 OVER THE GRAPEVINE.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...SLEET... AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM DROPPING SOUTHWARD ALONG THE WEST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES WILL SPREAD PRECIPITATION INTO INTERIOR CENTRAL CALIFORNIA ONCE AGAIN. ANOTHER ROUND OF ACCUMULATING SNOW IS POSSIBLE... WITH ACCUMULATIONS OF AS MUCH AS A FOOT OVER THE HIGHEST PEAKS OF THE KERN COUNTY MOUNTAINS. SOME ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE AT PASS LEVEL AROUND 4000 FEET. IN ADDITION...GUSTY WINDS ARE POSSIBLE AS WELL WHICH CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW AND BRING THE THREAT OF REDUCED VISIBILITIES.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW... SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

Live in the area and its a mess right now. At 10:00 a.m. near the ranch offices yesterday it wasn't bad, now who knows. If I get back out that way today I'll post some info. I've got about 30 inches of snow now, forecast calling for more.

If you get on the ranch, good luck and have fun, but watch those roads and bring recovery gear, chains. I've already assisted on a few pull outs yesterday afternoon, about 15" ago.

Good Luck Guys,

Have fun and stay safe. As bad as it sounds, I still wish I could go.

I'm doing my best to stay on top of it, and stay positive. This latest from the National Weather Service gives some hope... although it may come too late.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick....eld2=-118.94389

If they can get the freeway open today, then this snow will partially turn to rain tonight... it'll be sloppy, but should be huntable. Final decision is still up to the Ranch, though. Things look a lot different on this computer screen than they do to folks living in the midst of it.

Sweep, appreciate the info, by the way. Good to know.

Grapevine opened again about an hour ago, the radio announcer was happy they had 6 trucks and 3 cars freed and moving. I'm assuming more have gone on down the road since I got back. Snow is starting to lightly fall again at my place at 6K feet. Didn't make it down to Flying J, figured icy road and a bunch of stranded travelers wasn't worth the hassle. Cloud cover looked pretty thick over Tejon.

Hope it works out for all.

It doesn't look too promising. Hopefully we get the word sooner than later as my plans are going to go from hunting all weekend to working Fri, watching my son Fri night, Monster Truck Races in the rain on Saturday and a kids B-day party on Sunday. For some reason option one sounds a hell of a lot better. At the same token I don't want to be miserable all weekend in the rain either. Never fails, choose to finally hunt Tejon in the winter and the whether doesn't cooperate.

If it does get rescheduled, I'm pretty sure 2-3 of the guys in my group can't make the middle of Feb. Thanks for the real time updates Sweep.

Barbara said she'd have word for me by noon. I told her I didn't want to push it, but I had a bunch of grown men who are gonna be crying if it's a no-go.

Safety first, I understand, but I've sure been looking forward to this hunt.

It seems the updates are about all I can contribute. No honey holes, no real expertise on hogs and I was looking forward to reading some stories next week. I get out pretty frequently, but it is never enough.

My wife thinks I'm obsessed. (I know I am.)

I need some phone numbers... Mark/Carl or anyone from your group? Also for Dan.

Shoot them over in email, as you probably don't wanna pass them on the forum.

No word yet, but I'm gonna have to get something soon.

OK.. just off the phone.

No hunt this weekend.
<

Options:

Option 1: Reschedule for February 8-10
Option 2: Reschedule for March 7-9
Option 3: Roll your app over to the March General POR (14-16)
Option 4: Roll your app over to the May hunt (23-25)
Option 5: Refunds

Personally, I'm all for Option 1 (which is why I made it option 1). Need at least 8 of us to make it a hunt. We'll be sharing the campground with another small group.

Option 2, we'll be sharing the campground also, but the group may be much larger. No guarantees, but she'll get us in.

I need to touch base with each group as soon as possible, so I can get Barbara to lock us in a date. The calendar is REALLY full at Tejon, so options are very limited.

Just got off the phone with Sean....we are both in for option #1...Feb 8-10.

I am sorry this hunt didn't work, but this should make the "make-up hunt" only that much sweeter!!

So far the second option (March 7-9) works for 3 of us and I haven't been able to contact the other two. I may be able to scrounge a couple others if need be by then. I'm sure its for the better, but I really wanted to get up there and spend the weekend chasing pigs. Guess I set the timer back for another month and a half (Possibly) and start the process all over again.

Hmm... looks like a split between Option 1 and 2.

Mark, is the February date out of the question for you guys?
