For my first antelope hunt, I think I will plan on taking the following rifle:

Pre-64 M70 .270 Winchester
Leupold 4.5-14x 40mmAO

Shoots 130 grain Nosler Partitions into .5 MOA groups at a chronographed 3,125 fps.

So far this rifle has taken 1 deer, 1 coyote and 1 black bear.

What is your favorite Antelope rig?

I have used my Remington .25-06 for my last 2 Pronghorn hunts in New Mexico and I will take it again this year. It is a very flat shooting rifle with very little drop under 300 yards. I use 130 Gr. Winchester. I however take both Nosler tips and balistic tips. I have found with my gun if I sight in the nosler tip dead on at 100 yards then the balistic tip is dead on at 200. I keep both on a holder on the stock and use the one that is appropriate for the distance I will be shooting. Last years shot was 302 yads and I aimed 3" high using the balistic tip and hit my mark. The lope dropped where he was standing. I've used the same gun for numerous deer, bobcats, coyotes, and all of my exotics that were the size of an Axis or smaller. I used my 300 Win mag for the Oryx I took this year.

The only concern I have is that the rifle may be a bit heavy for crawling around/stalking.

I have a Remington KS Mountain rifle in 300 Win Mag that has shown some accuracy promise with the 150 grain Nosler Partition at just under 3,300 fps. I may have to throw a bigger scope on it (it now has a 2.5-8x 36mm) and get it dialed in. I won't shed many tears if I get a scratch or two on that rifle.

My favorite is a .257 Weatherby with 120gr Nosler patitions. This thing shoots 3/4 inch groups and under if I do my job. At 3500+fps this baby zips along. I have shot 2 lopes and a bunch of blacktails with this rig. RG

M77 in 7mm. I shoot 140gr partitions. It's been 4 years since I've drawn a tag, so I have kind of forgot what it's like.

I cant figure out how to edit my post. Help! It must have been a setting or something. But the post above doesnt have a edit button on it. I noticed that I said my .257 shoots 3500FPS that is incorrect...it should have been 3300 fps.

Just got back from the range. The 270 is shotting well, however, I stumbled across a load for my 300 Win Mag that may be the answer to my antelope hunt.

I have a stainless steel Winchester 300 Win Mag with a custom 26" barrel and McMillan stock. Scope is a Leica 3.5-10x 42mm with 30mm tube. Using a healthy dose of RL22 and 150 grain Barnes Triple Shocks, I shot a nice 4 round group at .7 with a velocity of just over 3,400 fps. A pretty flat shooting load that should knock an antelope silly.

What do you think?

Fairchase,

That is what I will be using a bighorn with the 209s with SSTs.

My daughter will use a Wolverine with SSTs also.

For rifle, I am trying to get my Winchester 270 WSM with Zeiss dialed in for future hunts.

Sako Forester .243 shooting Federal Nosler Partitions 100 gr. Burris 3-9 x 40 set to 5 power.

Got all but one yote I pointed this thing at plus it KOed my lope at 320 yards.

It's a clean shooter with plenty of knock down power for these itty bitty critters. Plus it is easy to carry in the field.

I have been using a Interarms Mark X Mauser in 25-06 cal. for the past 20 years. I handload using Rem. cases, 120 grain Sierra SBT, 49 gr. IMR-4350, CCI primers. This load shoots 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups very consistantly.
I have taken over 20 lopes and about the same amount of deer over the years and all but two were one shot kills. The range varied from 40 yards to over 500 yards. About 10 were in excess of 400 yards to 500 yards while hunting Wyoming. I could not ask any more of this rifle or it's Nikon 3x9 scope.
