Hello,

Very new to the site. I was referred here by someone at bowsite.com, when I was asking for California hog hunting information.

I live in Oregon, grew up in Costa Mesa California. I have lots of relatives in Sacramento and some in the Bay area.

Ever since I was a teenager I wanted to hunt hogs, with archery equipment. I lived in an anti-hunting household at the time though, so it wasn't an option.

Now, I'm 33 and living in Portland Oregon, and I just last month finished making my first Selfbow. It's 58# at 27 1/2" (my draw), hickory... a nice shooter. I've made 2 dozen arrows and have begun shooting. My accuracy is getting better and better -- definitely not big game hunting til next year however.

I want to hunt pigs in California. We have very few here, and they aren't boar mixes, but actual feral escapees. Which is fine, I'll go after them too... but my dream is to hunt in the hills of California. With my own bow and arrows.

The information I'm gathering here is great, and I really appreciate the folks sharing what they know so readily.

I'll be on this site and if/when the time comes I'll gladly share my story here.

Brandon

Hello everyone! I am very new to this site but have been reading it since I stumbled across it last year. Not able to join until now. I am originally from The Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but duty to country for the last 18 years has kept me from hunting whitetails back home. Have been stationed at N.A.S. Lemoore for about 14 years and picked up Hog hunting about 4 years ago. I have shot two myself but I have learned so much more from reading other members responses and experiences, very informative to say the least. This is a great forum and I check in to see what is going on allot. Do not have a steady hunting partner now days, he moved back east about three years ago, anyone who wants to hit the bush with me just give me a holler! glad to be here!! Ron Maierle (GO NAVY!)

Howdy everyone, born and raised in Central Florida, got my fair share of hogs there. I now reside in the Central Valley of the great state of California, thanks to the US Navy. Have yet to see any hawgs around here, cept for some great pics. Been out couple of times, seen a few signs but no beasts. Heading out this weekend though to try again, Condon Peak area. This is a great forum!!! I stumbled across Jesse's website a year ago and then a buddy told me about this forum, alot of useful info. I currently use a Savage 30 06, with scope ofcourse, and am giving some thought to bow hunting, getting in a little practice here and there. Anyway I just wanted to say this is a great site. Keep up the good work, and good luck to all you hawg hunters!!!! Tim

Born and raised in the L.A. basin. Currently living in north San Diego County, Vista specifically.

Most all of my pig hunting has been at FHL, 90% of that in area 29 with a blackpowder rifle. Hoping to add Tejon Ranch to the resume this spring.

Hi all. I'm new to pig hunts as well as this site. I agree with the other posts, this is a fantastic forum. I was born and raised in California. Moved away for a few years to screw around in Fayetteville, NC then off to school. My wife and I now live in the Bay Area. I hunt with a scoped Marlin 44 mag. I've been to FHL a couple of times. No luck there; range control mentioned things have been pretty slow. Hopefully that changes with cooler weather. Haven't thought much about a dream hunt. Guess I need to learn the ropes here in Cali first. Good luck to everyone on their hunts.

Ok now that deer season is over, my husband is itching to take and teach me pig hunting. Only problem is that we don't know where to go that is not private property? Anyone have any suggestions? Anywhere close to us perhaps? If not we will travel.

Oh yea guess I should introduce myself. My name is Dina and I married a huntinfool.

Lived in ventura co. almost all my life.Last 4 years got in to huntin on my own. I have 2 fathers, 1 is a surfer of 40 years, i try and go out with him , but you have to be balls strong to paddle out in that kind of surf. But i still try for the old man and have a lot of fun! My other dads is a CRAZY fisherman. Example : makes his own fishin poles, always goin on 10 day trips for tuna, and makes his own lures! i get tired of catchin the same old 80ld blue fin 20 times a trip. I mean ,damn how much fish can 1 family eat?so thank god for the internet.ive been on 2 guided pig hunts, numerous public land pig hunts ( with no luck) ive hunted turkey (or tried!!!) and ive shot 1quail, count it 1 quail. And damn if it wasnt the best thing ive ever eatin. I have no private property to hunt , have no money(read my bio!)im married + 1 kid but i swear to you i will hunt any time almost any place on a moments notice and love it even if i dont see a damn animal of any kind! The 10mm glock 308, 30.06 12 guage rule and ill be your host tonight of the rant!

This is my second year looking for the Bacon on public land with no luck. I have been hunting from the time I was old enough to hold a riffle and am now 34 years old. I live in Fresno California and hunt or scout as often as I can depending on how many passes I can get from the wife. Most of my hunting has been done in the Central Valley but I am finally getting in a position where I can start to look at some guided hunts the first being a pig hunt this Spring. I have enjoyed reading the Forum pages and speaking with the different members and am looking forward to meeting more of you in the comming year. Brian Moss

My name is Jesse and I'm an alcoholic. Oh wait, wrong site. Damn!

Let me try this again... My name is Jesse and I'm a Huntaholic. There, that works a little better! I live in Sunny San Diego (Santee to be specific) and hunt mostly upland game - Dove, Quail, Rabbit, Pheasant (still trying to get my first big bird).

I went on my first ever D16 Muley hunt this October and really enjoyed myself! Didn't get one, but I heard a noise in the bushes and emptied my entire clip towards the sound.

HAHAHHA -Not really, I joke around A LOT! I hiked through and glassed some of the rockiest, cactus filled canyons I've ever seen, for 5 days. Saw some good deer sign, but no actual warm blooded animals. On the last afternoon I decided there were no more deer and it was time to kill a few of the abundant Quail that had been taunting me for the last 4.5 days (they will actually come up and eat food right out of your hand when they KNOW you don't have a shotgun). So I walked back to camp, grabbed my Beneli Nova 12ga Pump and hiked 10 minutes. What do I see? No, not millions of quail as I had all week... but a nice little 2x3 Desert Mule deer, walking slowly broad side about 90 yards out. And I'm holding a 12ga with birdshot... no slugs, and no 30.06
<
. Well, I'll get him next year. Maybe he'll be a 3x3 then...
<

O.k. I got totally off subject. I want to go pig hunting in May. I'll eat anything I kill once. If I don't like it, I won't kill it again. I'm thinking FHL or CR. Tejon seems a bit $$$ up for me.

Feel free to email me with the GPS coordinates for each of your personal favorite public land honey holes. Thanks!

I own a sporterized Springfield Armory 1903-a3 in 30.06. Scoped with a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 (LOVE IT!). Very accurate combo, if I do say so myself. I also want to get into muzzleloading.

I heard about JHO some time ago. The first time I was on the site my wife said: "Wow - Jesse, you started a hunting website?! That's amazing! I'm so proud of you." It was about a week before I admitted it was someone else with the same name. hahahaha!

And finally, I joined this website because I posted on BigGameHunt that I was interested in going Pig Hunting in Cali and "Cda55" referred me to this site again. So here I am. Can't wait to have a glass of good Scotch some night soon and go digging around in all of your old posts.

That's me, hope you liked this book... Jesse.

I'M FROM L.A., SO. CAL. I INTRODUCED MYSELF TO HUNTING WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER, DAD DIDN'T HUNT. I'M 54 NOW.
STARTED HOG HUNTING IN 1988 IN FHL. CAMP ROBERTS & LPNF. NO LUCK. DISCOURAGED & QUIT IN 1991. WAS RE-INSPIRED BY THE "CALIF. HOG HUNTER" QUARTERLY. A CO-WORKER & I WERE SUCCESSFULLY GUIDED BY THE EXCELLENT FRANK MORASCI OF MUSTANG GUIDE SVC'S IN '99. EVER SINCE, WE HAVE BEEN BITTEN BY THE "HOG BUG". WAS TALKING ABOUT HOG HUNTING IN CHURCH ONE SUNDAY, WHEN A BRO. SAID HIS DAD TRAPS BIG ONES EVERY NIGHT. I SAID WHEREEEEEE!!!!!!!! HE SAID HOUSTON, TX. SO FINALLY MADE THAT TRIP TO TX. HAVE BEEN BACK MANY TIMES SINCE WITH MY CO-WORKER & BAGGED SEVERAL BIG ONES(200 TO 350 LBS.).
I USE BARNES X .300 WM(TIKKA) & .338 WM(BAR MK II). I ALSO HAVE A "VIRGIN" MARLIN 45-70 WITH GARRETT AMMO WAITING TO BE BAPTIZED UNDER FIRE. I PRACTICE RUNNING SHOTS A LOT ON JACKS & COTTONTAIL W/ MY .22 & AT THE RANGE W/ MY HI POWERS.
MY DREAM WILD TUSKER HUNT WOULD BE TO BAG ONE OF THOSE 500 POUNDERS ROTOTILLING THE PEANUT FARMS IN HOUSTON WITH MY 45-70.WHEN YOU SEE ONE IN A LIVE TRAP LIFTING THE HEAVY STEEL(FLOORLESS) CAGE WITH IT'S BACK & TRYING TO RUN AWAY WITH IT TO THE BUSHES & STOPPED ONLY BY THE CAGE CHAINED TO A TREE, YOU'LL AGREE.GODBLESS.LARRYSOGLA

Hello Everyone,

Well, I'm probably one of the lucky ones. We own a ranch near King City Ca. Hog hunting is something we do to control "those darn critters!" There is some great hog hunting in western Fresno Co as well as Monterey Co., but the problem is most of it is private. I have tons of guns, but I must say that I have harvested most of my hogs with one of my 30-06 and a muzzle loader.

There are a few pictures on my website.

Happy Hunting.....

Well hey, I guess I am the new guy. Been trying to get away from this machine and what happens? I read about this forum and all progress to leave is lost.

I hunt the North Fork area( which is not far from Coarsegold). I hunt pretty resticted privat property here to keep the hog somewhat in check so the don't root up all the pasture land but it is getting pretty political with everyones private agendas. Been thinking about going over by King city to the Los Padres and turning the dogs out there but got to get better aquainted with the area first. Got a few pics at the site listed below. As far as a dream hunt....any successful hunt where the dogs are in one piece is successful. It'll be great talkin to folks into hog huntin in Calif
