all of our hogs were not domestic. It started out that wild hogs were released here. While there are escapees that have bread with wilds, it takes a couple of generations for them to turn feral.
As far as "What does it matter?"....To a lot of us it does matter if the hogs are kept captive. It eliminates "Fair Chase".
Perhaps I should invite you to read some of the posts in this thread.
You may find it quite enlightening. There are even some great pictures that show the difference between real wild hogs and "Auction Pigs" that are simply released on an oversized fenced farm.
