Hoppin on a plane this afternoon for Wyoming again. This time it's just me and my old man. I'm really looking forward to this trip. It comes at a sensitive time. 4 weeks ago, we thought the old coot was not long for the world. Doc's found a large mass in his chest and prepared us for the worst. The prognosis was a large tumor, likely malignant, with probable lymph node metastisis. Well after lots of prayers, the docs were proven wrong. What they thought was cancer turned out to be nothing more than a large and fast crowing cyst, completely benign. We were blessed! He's still just a bit sore from the operation and the 8" opening in his chest, but he's getting better every day. Nothing a little Western hunting trip wont help along.

This will be Pops' first big game hunt. He got me started as a kid with a dove or quail hunt once or twice a year, but was never into the big game thing. I got into that on my own so it will be cool having the tables turned. Hopefully he can ground a nice one. That will be my first objective, then if I still have time I'm going to try to stick one with an arrow. Might be tough wearing orange and all but I'm going to try. Worst case, I'll whack one with the .270 just to put some meat in the freezer. Man I can't wait for tomorrow!

Yep,

You sure know the value of huntin' withthe old man. Kinda put's it into perspective when you get a scare like that. But I reckon as tough and determined as he raised you to be, he's a rock. He's a tip of the hat to you and your brother as you help get dad his first big critter!

If you get up to the little town of Douglas, I have a brother in law there..

I'm stoked for both of you. Can't wait for the phone call. Now, remember, he's not going to be there to pull you up the mountain like I do. So, just go slow and tell him it's only another 100 yards. Oh, it's Wyoming. Never mind. Have fun. Shoot big goats. Drink some beers. The old timers like a shot of whiskey to quench that dry throat. Take care of him. Be patient.

Rumor has it that a trip was made to the locker and beers are being consumed. Actually, it's not a rumor. I know first hand that a goat is down and SD was slurring when he called.

Compared to prior years, it was tough. Not nearly as many antelope, and not nearly the quality I'm used to in this unit. My Dad shot a pretty nice one though. I tried and tried with the bow and came close but not close enough. I'm still bringing home some meat, just no bowkill. More later.
