Curious, what is the closest city to LS? I've never been up there however I have always wanted to hunt LS for pigs. If there are no camping allowed, what's the next option?... Motel? Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. I can always sleep in my car provided we are allowed to park overnight. Thanks in advance!

Technically Cloverdale is closest, but the marina has a Healdsburg phone number. From Cloverdale it's 10 minutes to the visitors center using Dutcher Creek, or 10-15 minutes up a windy road to Yorty Creek. It's a 20-25 minute drive to the VC from Healdsburg

Yes, Cloverdale is the closest town and there is camping or motel. If camping does open back up before the hunt starts Nov 23 I will post the update forsure!! As for camping in the car, we do not allow overnight parking in any of our lots right now other than the Public Boat Ramp but you can’t sleep in your car at the Public Boat Ramp, so therefore no camping in your car at Lake Sonoma. Also I have a list going of people who would like me to call them when camping opens back up. If you would like me to add you to the list to call you please email me or send me a private message through Jesse’s and I will add you to my list.

Dsp, if you would like to bike on the trails you’re more than welcome to do so. There are a few parking lots that are open: Lone Rock, No Name and Little Flat that you can leave from. All other parking lots are closed but trails are open.

TRA: awesome pics! I’m so very grateful that I get to work in such a beautiful park!

Sancho: Talk to you soon! Email or fax me a copy of your information and I can get you registered.

As always, any questions please feel free to message, email or call

Couple questons;

First, it's just $30 and you have a "permit" to hunt the land from Nov to Mar?

And.....is it better if you have a boat at Lake Sonoma or can you reach all of the huntable land via foot?

Voidehco it's a one time registration fee that's good from nov.-mar. And u get one placard to hang in your truck and a sticker permit for boat use. People do get lucky and score hogs around the park but boat use will get u deep back into the lake where it would be hard to hike too for sure and there are some areas loaded with pigs, if u can't see them u will smell them that's for sure. Trail system is awesome to get around the park if u are not in great shape but when u got to get down and dirty looking for pigs u have to get of the trails and hit the valleys and hilltops that average between 700- 1000 feet form the road on top to the bottom of the lake, it's always physical when u put a full day hunting the lake but the scenery is awesome and well worth it.....tra

What TRA says. The terrain can be challenging for those that are not used to it. I took a buddy there for his first ever hunt last year and he said it was one of the toughest workouts he's ever done. The trail system helps a lot to get close to an area you want to hunt, but you have to get off of it eventually if you want to have a shot.

get registered dude!! you dont have to be in that good of shape..just be realistic as to "when you expect to crest that hill".. personally, i think with hog hunting, slow is good.

this is such a good deal. I will keep wishing for a $30 rifle hog hunt but not hold my breath. If I had a bow or crossbow I would b out there hiking with yall every weekend.

A camping option and on-site registration option is in theworks with the privately owned marina here at the lake. VC Girl should have thedetails hashed out in the next few days.
