Rangers are notorious for misleading hunters into the most unforgiving terrain where a pig may have passed some time prior to the last ice age. Our information is notoriously out of date.:pig-laughing:
So here goes…
Check Thompson ridge (this will require permission from your wife to buy a boat or the retention of a good divorce attorney). Currently, there is a sounder of about 30 pigs in the bowl below liberty glen (these will disappear on opening day).
The very best advice I can give you is to come out early and do some leg work before you hunt. Don’t overlook the deep canyons (refer backto line one of this post) and consider getting a game camera.
If you are lucky, you could get one of the regular hunters to take you out and show you the ropes. Romanarcher may be in a charitable mood and be willing to give up his honey holes now that he is moving to gator country.

The million dollar question rebelbrew where's my honey hole? That's a tuff one answer because I have had to put so much effort when it comes to hunting the lake for what I know after a few years of this routine, Usually I only get about 4 hrs of rest the night before I get up a 2 am out the door by 3-3:30 am then it's about a 2 hr and 45 minute drive to L.S. and with fog can be longer that early. Once I get there I Then I drop my slip of at the V C and then get to my parking spot and I will be on the trails of the lake before the sunrises my man and put a long day of hiking around which can be very physical.
Yes hunters do get lucky at the lake and a pig might pop out in front of them out of the blue for shot but the odds of that are slim, what u will find frustrating at the lake is u will find and see pig sign everywhere but not see the pigs and that's typical.
A lot of acres and areas to cover at the park and it all can't be done in one day plus u have the Yorty side
6 more miles down the road in cloverdale. It's no cake walk.

This is a public state park so by the time 10 am comes around u will start running into HIKERS, JOGGERS, DOG WALKERS and MOUNTAIN BIKERS and other HUNTERS on the main trails so with all that activity u think pigs will just be hangin out, NO.
So u have to start going of the trails and get down and dirty to find a pig and it still is easier said then done.
Pigs a very nomadic at the park they are always on the move very hard to pattern because of all the park activity.
Ranger Joel gave u some good info where they are hangin right now but like he also said here today gone by tomorrow!
I will do my best to help u out, but be patient grasshopper and stay tuned!
Just remember one thing they say to score a public land pig with a bow is a great accomplishment especially at lake Sonoma because it can be that tuff, I should know I have not been one of the lucky ones, but if hunting was that easy I wouldn't hunt!
Have a great day and hope u are one of the lucky ones at the lake this year scoring a pig.......tra

P.s. use google earth maps for the lake they are very helpfull with the terrain lay out and trails.

I've had plenty of opportunities to shoot pigs with people around, sometimes in the middle of the day. I believe they're used to having people around.
A buddy shot one last year near the campground bathrooms. Just my .02 cents worth.

What's the best way to go about the lake on foot

There are plenty of places to park from liberty glen to Skaggs. I typically find a place to park near a trailhead and walk the trail a bit and branch off the trail when I find something that interests me.

You can also park by the boat ramp near the north (?) side of the lake, can't remember the name but recall driving town and turning at the mcdonalds to get there.

Hmmmmmm.......all these talks about elusive wild hogs at Lake Sonoma. I'll have to pay a visit to the Lake and see how elusive they really are.
