Hunted A16 (X9a) archery this year, what a journey.
I had began exercising in Dec after a pig hunt at Tejon . Even though i killed a boar , my ability to climb hills was very weak at 270lbs. Knowing i had enough points to hunt a draw archery zone i put in for A16 and the journey began.i began running and exercising and by June when i drew the tag was down 50 lbs to 220lbs. Drawing the tag fueled the fire.
I scouted mostly solo and with my daughter in the Northern portion of the zone and found some good bucks. By the time season came i was at 190lbs hiking , running lifting ready to kill.
I went into this hunt not wanting to kill a fork even if it meant tag soup. There was a fire were i scouted witch sucked , i was forced to basically go to a different area blind. I found a good buck though That i hunted a few days he was in the trees middle left
i got with in range after a two hour stalk only to be busted by his buddy the spork that rebeded
i never saw them again after this even though i dedicated a few weekend to that buck. I ended up missing a 3x3 that was a very good buck at 65 yds and being blown out on numerous stalks on good bucks.
i passed on so many forks it wasnt even funny but stayed true to my goal and ate tag soup. This was a truly amazing zone i cant wait to draw again. I grabbed a bear tag because scouting we saw 4 bears , never saw one during season go figure.
on a side note i did help a friend kill his first buck in D6 rifle , spotting it for him and putting him in position to capitalize , was so happy for him almost as good as if i shot it.
