Won't be long now and it will be dove season...Then soon enough the opener for waterfowl....Simply the best time of the year... Anyone been scouting "their" spot yet? Lot's of doves everywhere I go............
I scouted a few places last month. There seems to be more Eurasians out and about this year. Good golly Miss Molly they're fat and slow! Mourning dove numbers look to be up slightly. There's still a lot of cooing/nesting going on. If it gets as hot this summer as is being predicted, it looks like a great season.
Oh little doveies how you fly so sweet i only mean to give you whats men,t to be, a little 7 shot hear and 8 shot there, rest now little doveies in my game bag nite nite
My spot which was changed to alfalfa for the past 3 years has been half changed back to a dry crop which is wheat this year. Not as good as safflower which it'll be next year, but I'll take the wheat anyday over alfalfa. Dove numbers are up considerably in my area as compared to this year. Last year we didn't have any dove nests in the back yard and this year we had 2 nests and each had 3 pairs of chicks. I can't wait for the opener, but I've got an antelope and hopefully get my youngest on a B4 deer before then...
35 actually if you don't count today because today is today and then the 1st is really the day so close enough but lets get it here sooner then later....
I am getting very excited. Got my license and stamp yesterday. Planning to do some practice in the next few weeks at Triple B. This will be my first time hunting. As such, I'm 30 and looking for someone to take me along on the opener somewhere in the vicinity of LA (I know I'm going to have to drive some distance, a few hours is fine with me). I'll buy lunch and beer afterwards!
"Practice were talking bout practice".....LOL that's funny.....Practicing on clays in nothing like shooting at a real dove Have fun good luck shoot upwards always and enjoy your time in the field...
i'd advise you to avoid niland, it is a popular area but the crowd seems to be dumber and dumber, not taking another low shot like I did a couple years ago, bakersfield has some areas i've heard but never been, blythe is also a good spot

Me and my buddy did not see anybody at the fields we were hunting, except for the owner on our way in, he told us do not drive on his roads around his house, and we kindly said yes sir, then he told us to hunt his back fields. This will be our 3rd year. Good luck.
Last year was my first year hunting dove and I took Slanttops advice and went to Niland and had the best time! The only reason I am not going this year is that my QUWF club will be going to Yuma and my son and I want to hunt with them. Also a friend will be in the same area and we may be able to hunt together the second day... I highly recommend Niland.
