Oh yah, you want to be successful .........? Get in or be in some of the best shape of your life before hitting the field.

If you get in "the area" someone directs you to from Jesses, I guarantee that if you put in 3 miles instead of 1 or 8 instead of 5 your chances exponentially increase.

I do remember being new here and 1st time tag holder for x9a. Got some great advice but still had to work it hard. Have had 3 of those tags and got a buck each time. Good luck to all the newbies

I'm just here to learn for the fun huntings and stuff and things. And by the way, ALL of you have won 12 million dollars EACH in the Antarctica lottery! Send me your SS # and bank account info, and prepare to be rich!

That's a joke^

I'm stoked to be a newbie here after subjecting myself to all the betterthan attitudes on bowsite over the last couple of years.

Ok this thread is giving me a guilt trip lol...cuz one of my first posts when I really started to participate on JHO was about finding someone with a boat to go to Lake Sonoma with, now I just want to be clear I have hunted LS many times, I know my way around and my post was simply looking for a ride not someone's honey hole, which I offered to pay for. In hindsight I should have been more clear on that when I posted. Just sayin'. :)

This thread resonates with me because I have no real hunting buddies, so I fully understand how a forum like JHO could be a tempting place to meet hunting partners. I have great friends with whom I've gone on extended backpacking trips -- people who've proven themselves outdoors (and who, hopefully, also consider me reliable in a tough situation). One guy in particular is in much better shape than me and knowing that, secretly removes stuff from my pack and puts it in his own to lighten my load on particularly tough ascents. He's done this on several climbs. He's the kind of guy you want to hunt with. But he absolutely refuses to shoot animals.

That said, though, I'd be super careful about going into the woods with an armed, untested person. Like TRA and others pointed out, its not that I think someone will go Ted Bundy on me -- it's more that I don't know whether they'll keep their cool in an emergency. Even a mild emergency, like being temporarily lost or stranded. There's an old saying -- it's better to lose something with a smart person than find something with a fool. I think in this situation, I'd prefer to deal with a mild emergency in the woods alone than have someone unstable try to assist.

When I signed up here it was to find where the bucks were. I don't think I specifically asked for a certain spot, but I ask lots of questions. And welcomed any information people wanted to share. Several people responded with encouragement and/or helpful general information about deer hunting and it made my day. Others responded to PM's and everyone was nice to the noob. Thank you, to all of those people. The most helpful thing was the constant encouragement to just go out there and learn for myself. Don't look for deer on the internet, go out and look for them in the forest. Yes it takes years, but that's what hunting is all about. Now, looking back, I'm glad no one held my hand and showed me exactly where to find the deer.
Now that I know a little about hunting, it's easy to ignore people coming on here and their first comment is to ask where the deer are. Funny how that works, I used to be that guy and now that guy bugs me. It's probably because now that I fully understand how much time, effort and money goes in to finding deer on public land, that it's much to valuable of information to give away at the drop of a hat. Besides, to say it on the internet means it won't be a good hunting spot much longer! But I'll try to encourage new hunters in their efforts, and answer their general questions the best I can. Does more hunters mean fewer deer for me? Possibly. But it's better for the future of the sport in the long run.

I have offered to take people hunting, but it's always people that I've met face to face. People that I know I can trust.

Well, that's just my rambling on. Trolls are trolls though, and should be ignored.

They won't do you any good without the gate code or some wire cutters. I will say I'm working on the wife for a hunting/fishing boat for next LS season. We'll see, but if I do you could certainly hitch a ride.

If nothing else a new hunter will definately learn the art of whining on this forum... I do think that there is some good info put out on here but definately a fair share of whining and yes I have contributed too.

Wow...I haven't been on here for awhile but great post....had many PM me for info and I gave it out like candy...some did run with it but made some good new friends...tho I did realize From the start that my generous info giving personality would back fire on me....no worries...It just pushed me to find new ones...right after the Deer season...I scouted hard for a new area...I was rewarded with a sighting of a double drop tine...but sorry guys...this 1.... I m keeping it to myself...

I think from now on...I ll stick with...ask me for advice and I'll teach u...ask for location and i ll ignore u

There is a chance that Shu Lace is just naive....right? He may be unaware of how his posts appear to the veterans on here.

I have been quietly watching this post as I am a new member myself. I have started only one post since joining and that was a post to introduce myself on the welcome thread. I have yet to post anything further for a couple of reasons. First reason being that I am unexperienced and feel I dont have much to contribute at this time. Second reason is that i dont want people to think I am here to reap the rewards of their hard work. But that is just me.
I can see quaildeaths point here that maybe shu lace just doesnt understand how his posts are percieved? Without trying to slander shu lace, i will agree that his posts have seemed pretty aggresive and maybe even a little suspect even to a newbie myself.
Has any veteran member of this site reached out to him to see what his true intentions are? Or is the status quo to just shun someone who may not know how to better go about seeking info/assistance? Not trying to ruffle feathers here just want some clarification so that no one here questions my intents in the future if I were to unkowingly ask the wrong questions.

I was thinking that too. My other theory was that Shu Lace is probably a younger guy, and my experience with some younger folks is that they are brought up in a world of instant gratification, enabled by technology. For example:

Want to learn about a certain subject? Go to Google, Wikipedia, etc.
Want to see what someone is up to? go to Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Want to watch a movie? Go to a "Pirate" site and download it
Want to listen to a band/song? Go to one of many sites/apps and stream it.
Want to communicate with a friend? Use technology to "Instant Message"
Want to just buy a term paper for college instead of writing it yourself? I don't know those websites, but they exist
Want to find a good hunting spot? Go to local internet forum and troll.

Now don't get me wrong I'm NOT sticking up for the guy and saying that its ok to come on here and troll for info. Nor am I making a generalization that all younger people just go to the internet whenever they need info. There are many that are ready, willing, and able to put in their own hard work and find out for themselves, I've seen them here and out in the field. My point is that maybe this guy and the other first time posters looking for info were just brought up in a different world than some of us are used to. Just my two cents.

Hi all,

Well I'm as newbie as newbie comes if you look at my join date. At least to Jesse's. What a perfect time to join and on this thread(yikes!). But a friend told me about Jesse's and asked that I join. So here I am. Don't worry I'm not here only for info. I enjoy looking at some of your posts and photos.

TRA- I know where your coming from. I've had friends and family who's done that to me. Just know that if friends and families can do that to you anyone else out there can. Don't let those bad times destine your future friends. BTW I read a few of your other posts they're great! Keep it up!

This is my very 1st post. I'll try and figure out how to share a pic from a few weeks ago on a new post. Look for it.
