Varmints, coyotes, pigs

My dad taught me to shoot when I was very young. He bought me a Marlin 60 on my 12th b-day.

Rifle - Remington 700 VLS in .223 (looking for a Marlin 17HMR now)

Me a 2 other buddies were hunting pig. Buddy got one and it ran off. I was the only person with something strapped to my hip (.22mag - hey, at least it was something). Had to put one in it's head after I got only a few feet from it and it jumped up and charged me. We all thought it was dead.

No dream hunt quite yet.

Hey all
My name is Eric and I live in Visalia,ca.

I grew up in a family that isnt very friendly to hunting so I didnt start till I was 23 years old when I moved out of the house. The first thing I bought was a Hoyt magnatec and started applying for special zone hunts. Drew my first tag 2 years later at x9a and missed a nice 4x5 on the last day of the hunt. I would say bowhunting is my favorite type of hunting. I also rifle hunt I shoot a ruger m77 in 7mm mauser. and have a remington model 1100 shotgun for the birds. Also have a ruger 10/22 for the varmints and rabbits. I hunt deer the most because its got the best access to public land for me. I joined the site for good insight from others and also to look for a new hunting buddy, my best friend is moving away and I really dont like the woods completely alone , so if any of you are looking for another hunting buddy shoot me a pm. Im a larger guy but I can hike all day Just a little slower at times when the air is thin...lol

Hugh, So Riverside County.

Hunt upland game, and varmit, but want to get into pig and deer.

I use a Mossberg 12 guage and a SBS 20 (Don't remember the maker right now. Sorry). I hope to leave CA soon and go to where hunting really is. Idaho? PA? Not sure yet.

I love to fish - bass and fly fishing.

Anyone up for some pig, or quail let me know.

Antelope Valley, southern Wachyfornia
Former Marine, Vietnam vet, avid outdoorsman. My favorite home is my tent. I hunt anything legal, including varmints with my 22.250 falling block Ruger, but I have to say that me and my gsp's favorite game is upland birds , primarilly dove and quail, when I use my Browning Citori over and under. I also take Rosie hunting jackrabbits frequently, she will never catch one, but her yelps of joy when she takes off after one warms my heart. When I do take a firearm on these rabbit hunts, it is almost always a pistol, either my Python, or most always my customised Ruger Old Army cap and ball .45. If anyone knows of a good place to find dove in the Antelope Valley, I would appreciate a reply, since the price of gas has made me reluctant to take my f150 out to the Bakersfield area where I usually go Sept. 1st.

What kind of game do you like to hunt the most?

Deer, pigs, turkeys, rabbits, ...I just love to hunt and will hunt anything in season.

Who taught you how to hunt and when was your first hunting trip?

My daddy and his friends taught me how to hunt. My first hunting trip was October of 1978, I had just turned 8 and daddy took me squirrel hunting. I killed my first bushytail that day with an old single shot .410.

Do you use a rifle shotgun, or bow? What kind?

I use rifle and shotgun. Currently I use a Stevens bolt action in 30-06 and I have an old H&R bolt action in 7x57 that I'm hoping to baptize this year. I also have a .50 muzzleloader but haven't used it since my last deer hunt before I left Mississippi. That's along with the usual suspects of Mossberg 12 guage pump and .22 for smallgame and such. I'm thinking of getting into bow and handgun hunting at some point just not sure when.

What is your favorite hunting memory?

I can't just name one. I think i'd have to say every hunt I've ever been on is in my "favorite memory" file . From the hunts with my daddy and our dogs running rabbits and deer to the night raccoon hunts with his friends and their dogs to the first deer I klled on my own after doing all the prep work and scouting on my own and now to everytime I get to take my son's out and watch them learn and grow to love being in the outdoors as much as I do. I think any and everytime afield is a beautiful memory.

What is your dream hunt?

I have so many but will name a few. Any hunt involving hounds ( I grew up hunting with hounds and love a good race and song and I love to see dogs work, too bad I live in an apartment now ) . Horseback hunt for mule deer and elk, of course an Alaskan moos hunt. Canadian whitetail hunt. Any of the traditional western states muley hunts. I think most any hunt would work for me to be honest.

My name is Casey I'm from Ducor CA near Porterville, but go to school in Santa Barbara. Turkey's are my favorite thing to hunt, but I also enjoy dove, quail, hog and waterfowl hunting. For turkey's I use an 870 turkey special with a factory Extra full choke and 21 inch barrel. For dove and quail I use an 870 wingmaster and for hogs I use a Ruger .270. Turkey season is on the way!
Yours in Christ,
Casey <><

Howdy All,
Frank from the Mojave desert in S.Cal. I course jackrabbits with my Salukis. Or should I say, my dogs course jacks and I follow along ;-) Been chasing jacks since shortly after 1978 when I got my first Saluki. We give the long eared critters a run for their money all year round, although it is a real quick run during the summer due to heat. My dream hunt is when all the dogs come back safe and sound.

Who taught you how to hunt and when was your first hunting trip? I taught myself on a friends farm with her BB gun, DH grew up hunting in TX and OR but he just doesn't have the patience to teach me lol, he'd rather teach the kids.

Do you use a rifle shotgun, or bow? What kind? I have a compound bow, with a 45# draw, and right now I only have an AR7

What is your favorite hunting memory? Haven't made one yet

What is your dream hunt? To take my first deer

I am located in Tollhouse,Ca which is in the Sierras between Yosemite and Kings Canyon national parks (NE of Fresno).
My Dad taught me to shoot as a kid and my friends father took me on my first deer/bear hunt at age 13 up near Fresno Dome. I currently run a guide and outfitter service and train hunting dogs for upland game birds and waterfowl.
My tournament hunting team competes at the national level in competitive upland gun dog events. I am on the Pro Staff for 6 major companies in the hunting industry including JHO.
I compete with a Sabatti O/U imported by Charles Daly and fitted with Hi- Viz sights and a X-Coil pad. My favorite rifle is a custom built FN Mauser. The most often used equipment is a 44mag revolver for big game or my Fred Bear re curve bow on wild boar.
My favorite hunting memory is captured on video and can be seen on my web site Bryce Mann's Gun Dogs & Guide Service The video shows the smiles generated on the hunters faces during the pheasant hunt for persons dependent on a wheelchair. My dream hunt would be to hunt red stag in New Zeland.
