My name is George, I am from San Diego and I have been hunting about 3 years. I like to mostly hunt deer (rifle) and turkey (shotgun) with my 13 year old son, all on public land so far. Still trying to understand where the best deer tags are that you actually have a reasonable chance of drawing with no points. I hunted D16 this past year with no luck and my son drew G13 and J10 at FHL where he got a doe.

I am self taught at hunting, mostly from reading books, forums, and talking to other hunters. I taught myself to hunt so I could teach my son. He loves hunting and it's been a great way to spend time with him.

I don't have many hunting memories yet but I guess my most memorable is when my son got his doe at FHL. It was the first time I field dressed and skinned a deer by myself, I'll never forget it.

Mike,

Live in Fontana, CA. Looking to hunt Coyotes, Birds and Deer. I use a Remington 700 30-06, and model 788 308. Looking for a place to go hunting and anyone who likes getting out year round... hence coyotes, year round, night and day.

My name is Chris and I was born and raised in Santa Clarita. I have gone dove and quail hunting but by far my favorite hunt was going Boar hunting. I had a friend and a buddy of his that my wife tattoos take me along there boar hunting location which is in Paso Robles area at Williamson brothers Ranch. Last year in march 2012 was when i got to take my first sow weighing 150 lbs. Used a 30-06 Remington and was hooked ever since! At this point for a dream hunt would be getting to Bag a monster Elk! but really, i like being outside and learning how to track and learn the habits of any animal that i am hunting for really.

Where are you from in California?
I live in Pasadena, CA. I'm from NYC originally.

What kind of game do you like to hunt the most?
I'm relatively new to hunting, but I have hunted deer, pheasant and quail. I'm looking forward to going hog hunting real soon.

Who taught you how to hunt and when was your first hunting trip?
When I was a kid, my parents had a farm in upstate NY. I did a lot of varmint hunting back then, mostly for muskrats around a couple of ponds and lakes we had on our property. I was pretty much self taught. Upland birds and large game is something I have come to in the past several years. I have learned a lot from friends who are pretty experienced.

Do you use a rifle, shotgun, or bow? What kind?
I am mostly into bow hunting for big game and shotguns for upland birds, although I have hunted deer with a rifle in the past. I have a Mathews Monster Chill bow, a Rizzini 20 GA O/U, a Remington 870 Wingmaster, and several .308 rifles and an assortment of handguns.

What is your favorite hunting memory?
Taking my first Red Deer Stag in 2010 in the highlands of Scotland. I took two on that trip.

What is your dream hunt?
Bow hunting for Elk someday. Bighorn sheep would be pretty epic too.

From Central Cali-Porterville area
I hunt all upland game birds, deer, bear, pig, coyote rabbit and squirrel.
Dad taught me how to shoot and I have learned how to hunt on my own. However I can always learn more.
I shoot rifles 22, 357, 308 and shotguns 12 and 20, no bows.
Deer season this year I was hunting the Kern river drainage and 2 F-18's came streaking up the river doing combat drills. I have seen many fighter jets as I was in the Air Force however this is the first time I was ever looking down on top of them when they were flying. We have an awesome military.
Although I love to hunt and I do hunt more than most people I am only an average hunter.
Dream hunt would be a Cali Elk hunt.

Hey guys, Im from Los Angeles California, I am new to hunting. Been on one hunt my hole life and was hooked right out of the gate. My obsession grew so fast I decide to not only teach myself how to hunt but decided to film a TV show following my journey becoming a hunter from getting the gear to hunters safety to ethics all the way to the actual hunts. Teaching my self and hopefully others as they watch the show. I grew up around hunters but my family never hunted. So I hope the show can teach the basic to new hunters so they can then have grounds to start on and go put in the work. As we all know it can be an overwhelming sport.

Anywho, seeing as I am still a new hunter and have only been on one deer hunt, i can answer what game i like to hunt the most. As of now I would say mule deer because thats all I know.

My brother in law took me on my first hunt so i learned the basics from him however i took it further and have been watching and reading any materiel I can get my hands on. As well as burning some booth rubber and going out and just watching and scouting animals to learn.

I recently just purchased a Bow as well as a Remington 700 Rifle .308. My favorite hunt thus far in my journey would have to be my first ever deer hunt. I drew an out of state general season deer tag for Arizona and met up with my brother in law. For 10 days he put me to work out in the desert teaching me many valuable lessons we hiked 6-7 miles a days some times putting in a stalk but then loosing them over a ridge or making a mistake and spooking them or they were to far away for my ethical shooting range.
In this I learned a lot the biggest thing that hard work and persistence is key as well as glass and glass and then glass some more. On day 9 of our hunt I spotted a massive buck way off in the distance on the ridge. At this point I was beat mental and physically from the previous days. We decide to put a stalk in on him. We hiked 3 1/2 mile up the mountain and got above him due to the wind only to have cattle spook him and he was gone into the trees. I have a love hate for cattle now ha. We hiked down on our way to lunch and my mind was filled with the fact I probably would not fill my tag. As we were driving on the dirt road I spotted a group of deer off to our left. We stopped and i glassed a spike who was staring right at us. I figured some one was up there watching how much work we put in and decided to place this spike right in our path. I hopped out of the truck crawlled on my hands and knees around the truck across the road and off the road a ways I hid behind a bush 20 yards off the road and peaked over, he was still there 75 yards away from me. I sighted him up and at this point my adrenaline was racing. I pulled the trigger and watched him drop. i was in shock for many reasons. I just harvest my first deer. I couldn't believe after all that work we put in for 9 days that the one i got was 100 yards off a dirt road. As i walke dup to him my excitement at this time was through the roof. He had Character and was a unicorn as we called him, Just one antler the other must have broke off. I was so thankful for that deer as well as the experience. it is a hunt i will never forget. The good old unicorn muley.

My dream hunt would have to be archery Elk which right now.

Well thats my intro, hope to meet some great fellow hunters and learn from this amazing forum. Huge thanks to everyone who has contributed information. A forum like this with so much knowledge available is truly priceless. Happy hunting!

How about some short introductions?
Hi I’m Lonny

Where are you from in California?
We live in Lincoln Heights (Los Angeles)

What kind of game do you like to hunt the most?
I‘m partial to hunting deer (mostly Whitetail back east)

Who taught you how to hunt and when was your first hunting trip?
My buddy Richie. 1st hunting was on his property 20yrs ago.

Do you use a rifle shotgun, or bow? What kind?
I mostly use Henry 30-30, but I’ve taken with my Ithaca Deerslayer 12gua.
I’m learning to hunt from a distance here in SoCal with my 6.5 Creedmoor.

What is your favorite hunting memory?
Sitting in a friends tree stand, back east and having a 6 pointer waltz in on my blind side. Slowly pivoting around and as I was turning and he was walking, I took him with a single shot. It literally flipped him upside down (4 feet straight up in the air). I waited and watched. I couldn’t believe it.
suddenly he starts kicking, like riding a bike upside down. He gets up, takes 2 steps and drops.

What is your dream hunt?
Hunting Elk up in Lone Pine
