Born and raised here in Southern California. (Vista area) Started with my dad when I was 5 with a single shot 20 gauge. Hunted Mendota and Kern and off of Barth road in the valley. Favorite gun new Traditions 3 1/2 inch over and under shadow grass camo. Ultimate trip anytime any place with my dad. He doesn't have too many more good years but would just once love to get him up to Canada for some in your face honker hunting. Just watching him would be good enough for me. Usually hunt Mendota opening two weekends and then Wister every week after till the last couple of weeks of the season try to head back up north to Mendota. Favorite duck DRAKE CANS. Now that there scarce would be the green head. I'm with Jesse love those specks up at Mendota. Looking forward to meeting everyone at Wister this year. Matt have a great trip in Canada, remember to take lots of pictures.

Born and raised in SoCal - Glendale, been in Temecula for 5 years. Never hunted waterfowl til I was 42, the year I got married. She knew about my 5-10 fishing trips a year, but 30 days of duck hunting a year is somewhat more than she bargined for.

I sweatlined Wister and San Jacinto mostly by myself for about six years and then joined a club in Prado two years ago. My first duck was spoonie while mired up to my knees in the Wister mud.

I still hit the local refuges when I get a resie so I hope to see some of you this year.

LateStart, welcome to JHO! I know what you mean about the 30 days of Duck, plus all the upland game plus fishing and the list could go on and on.

Maybe we'll se ya out at Wister some time.

Jesse and the rest of you guys,
Born & raised in So. Cal. (Santa Monica to be precise.) and relocated to Nor Cal about 6 years ago. Chiropractor by trade (go figure)

Started hunting w/ my Dad at the age of 9 or 10 when we would go to Cocoran and hunt the flooded cotton fields.

Now I hunt mainly w/ bubba (Jesus Murillo) and Greatwhitehunter (Rich Cole). We usually hunt San Luis, Yolo or a spot in the delta.

Used to use old 870 but recently switched to the Nova and haven't looked back.

Used to shot anything that flew close enough, but have gotten a bit more selective over the past couple years.

Look forward to joining you all on one of the upcoming JHO duck hunts. Perhaps a San Luis hunt?
Good Hunting

I used to hunt just about anywhere within 90 miles of Sacramento, but now hunt mainly LDC, SAC, Delevan refuges and hunt on rice near Willows and Biggs with an occasional hunt in the Delta.

I can't put down my 870, all of my huntin buddies shoot X2's and I just won't make the switch after constant ribbing in the field. I can still fold'em with consistency and if ain't broke I ain't fixin it!

Favorite ducks to shoot have to be widgeon and gummies (gadwal). Favorite duck to hunt is mallard and sprig. I know that sounds wierd, but there's nothing like a ball of widg 25yds out coming straight in. Then again, there's nothing like feeling the weight of that green head as you pull him from the water or watching the concord (sprig) coming in for landing. Hell, I'd say each duck is my favorite in their own rite...

I've always dream of hunting flooded timber in Arkansas with mallards funnelling down on top of me or up in SASK lying in a wheat field with 20lb honkers 15 yds from my barrel!

I live in Huntington Beach, and hunt Wister, SJWA, Perris, Barrett, and the Owens Valley. I am self taught since 1970 when I got a black lab and wondered if he might like to hunt. My favorite shot with my Nova is to fold a bull sprig. I ride my bike along the Santa Ana River and duck watch 3 days a week from September to March. I would like to call green heads into flooded timber.

Hi, My name is Will. I live in Simi Valley, Born and raised in SoCal. Started duck hunting at Wister in the early seventies at the age of 7. I mostly hunt Kern now but I will go to Wister at least once a year to relive some memories and hunt with my Dad.

My best hunting memory has to be a hunt at Wister around Jan 1983 on one of those cloudy windy days where you can not keep the ducks out of the dekes. My Dad, Brother, and I finished off our limits with a huge bull sprig that seemed to hang ten yards over the dekes for ever before we took him.

I love my870 express and hope to someday go on one of those baja hunts you see on DU or OLN.

Every year Feb. to Oct takes forever. Hope to see some of you out there. Really enjoy your posts.

Hey yall new to the site. Born and raised in Decatur, AL. Moved here 5 years ago. I have 4 kids 1 boy 12 3 girls 9,7,&2. We are a hunting family. I started hunting when I was 8 now 30. I have got to hunt all over the US and I still love to hunt my Mississippi and tennesse Rivers. It is a big change moving here and hunting. All this ressie and crap you have to do just to hunt, but what ever it takes missing the days of going in the down the road and there you go miles of open hunting with no wister sky busters. But anyway dream hunt MEXICO. Hope to go before they put me in the ground. Thanks you guys for this site and looking forward to seeing you hunting. Roll Tide!!!!!!!!!!!

Born and raised in Los Angeles and was introduced to hunting 4 years ago by my brother. I normally hunt Mendota, Kern, and San J (in that order) for waterfowl though I do take my gun along when I go to the Sierras, C/R, or any body of water/mud hole where I think a duck might be.

I shoot a plain jane Win 1200 pump which I got as a gift. Not much to it but I can break it down in my sleep. Which is a good thing since it has been dropped normally in the wrong places.

I've learned alot from this board. Orygun gave me tips on how to start at Mendota and Huntducks (I believe) provided me tips on working Kern. Thank you both as they are each great places to hunt. Especially when the first light hits the refuge and everything wakes up and starts making noise and moving. The sound of the wings flapping.... Man I need to go

I'm normally in the sweatline either Sat or Wed since my luck at getting picked has not been good. On the other hand I now know how to hunt the areas that most of the other hunters do not want (ie. 1 or 1a @ Kern) or any of the edges @ Mendota.
Stay hidden and quiet (since I can't call very well), move your decoys, work hard, and wait till they fold their wings

Favorite waterfowl: Anyone that flies by. I've learned to prepare even the worst ones. Heck I shot so many ring necks (all I could find at a local pond) I can even make them taste ok.

My dream shoot would be any place where I can have a flock fly by. I dno't need a limit I would just like to see a whole flock with their wings cupped comming into my decks. I've learned to hunt singles and doubles all day in order to get some.

Well, thats about it.

Born and raised in West Sacramento, about 10 minutes from Yolo NWA. My cousin is the one who got me hooked on waterfowl when he took me on a junior hunt at Little Dry Creek. That was a quite a few years ago and LDC is still my favorite refuge to hunt.

My favorite shotgun is my trusty 870 express. Favorite duck...SPOONIE! Just kidding. It's hard to say, there's nothing like folding a nice green head though. But I'm also partial to green wing teal, widgeon, and sprig.

Places I hunt frequently are Little Dry Creek, Delevan, Sacramento, Colusa, Sutter, Yolo, and Gray Lodge. I recently checked out Grizzly Island.

Hard to say what my dream hunt would be... I'd be happy hunting at Yolo on a crappy day

. Probably Mexico or Argentina, that would be a nice, once-in-a-lifetime type things. I'm still waiting for the day when I get blind #1 at Little Dry Creek.

My brother taught me how to duck hunt. I dabbled in it for a few years but never had the time or money to buy the necessary supplies to go duck hunting. My best hunt was with my brother back where I'm origionally from in connecticut. It was on a river deep in the country. No wardens to pay money to. Just your license, duck stamps and the will to endure. It was about fifteen degrees out on the river exactly. We started out at the top of the river and floated down to a flooded shallow area where we set up our decoys and made our blinds. We kept having to go out to the decoys and break the ice off them. Finally, just about shooting hours 7 black ducks flew into our decs. shooting hours broke and we took 'em. They were some fat canada grain fed black ducks. Really good eating. My favorite duck to hunt is as of yet unknown because I'm new at the sport but teal are becoming one of my favorite. My favorite shotgun is the one I have which is the beretta urika. I got it from my father in law for quiting smoking. It was well worth it. My brother is in South Carolina and I'm in California so I don't have a hunting partner. I like to hunt with people serious about the sport. My dream hunt is to be out in the middle of nowhere. Alaska, Canada, North Dekota, Seskatchewan; any one of those and on opening day.
