Yes right- we just put an ad in the newspspers stating that the ducks were invited to stay til Jan (Our Wi season ends in early Dec) or when ever they wanted- offered to take our grain out of storage and put out for them- sounds like another Phil Robertson Fiction story.

If you don't believe it come spend $87 for your out of state license. They'll take your money, too.

You can also go to the Missouri Department of Wildlife website and see the the amount of ducks they were holding in their conservation areas. They had almost 50000 more ducks in 4800 acres than we had in the entire state the second week of December. Oh yeah, that area was also covered in ice that ranged from 1-3 inches and still had 200,000+

There is nothing wrong with making your habitat suitable to hold ducks. That's how you consistently have and kill ducks. Arkansas has been doint it for years. It's a simple observation, not a complaint against northern states. Now that other states are doing it as well as we have, unless their is significant snow fall or the Mississippi locks up

they're is not that much reason for them to fly any further south.

First off, hello all. Surfing the net and stumbled onto this one. Recognize a few names from some of my local hangout, One eyed and Spectr. Pretty cool looking site from what I have seen so far.

I was born in East L.A. when folks were visiting relatives, raised for the first 15 years inland from Ventura Cali. Still have some family (aunts and uncles) in Chino and Ojai. Best move my parents made was 17 years ago when we moved to where I am currently at in the Branson Missouri tri-lakes area. Haven't been back and really don't have a desire to go back. Reason for the move to help my grandparents out with my grandfathers cancer who passed away later that same year. Tell everyone I was reborn moving out here. Lived right on Taneycomo, drove a boat to work (worked at a marina two miles up lake) and got to fish just about every day either after school, work, or on my days off. Didn't really get into hunting until after I got married and started meeting some some people with the same interests.

Primarily hunt Taneycomo and Bull Shoals lakes in this area. Also hunt Schell Osage and 4 rivers CA's about 6-10 times a year and some private land up around Swan Lake.

My dad taught me how to hunt (deer), but didn't really take me as much I would have liked. After having 5 kids my dad lost his interest in hunting and switched to mainly fishing. Now that all the kids have flowin' out of the nest I'm getting his hunting fire relit and took him on his first few duck hunts last year (he was mainly a deer hunter before). Best two hunts I had last year was with him and the other was with one of 9 year old sons on his first actual duck hunt..

My favorite duck to shoot is probably Mallards followed by Teal. My favorite geese to hunt is canada's.

My favorite shotgun is my ol trusty mossy 835.

My ideal Dream Hunt would be to take an entire migration off and start in either Canada or NoDak and follow it from state to state on south possibly to Argentina the more reading I do and videos I watch. But its all a DREAM

Live in NC and hunt ducks in the piedmont area. High Rock Lake mostly. My friend's brother introduced me to duck hunting when I was 12. We ruffed it back then. After that, te bug bit me and in the past 3 years I have become a hardcore waterfowler. I have learned to call pretty well, and I owe most of this to him. He is a L. Corp in the USMC over in Iraq, so throw in an extra prayer. I love hunting mallards and gettin' them right on top of us before we cutt em'.

My favorite shotgun is my 870 Super Mag. My dream hunt would to hunt ducks in the flooder timber in Arkansas. You kno, one of them hunts where the ducks blacken the sky over your hole, and then drop in all at once.

BTW: My name is Cameron

I'm from Chico, CA and I hunt in Glenn and Colusa County. I hunt refuges infrequently, but I get out there at least a few times a year. I lease blinds and hunt them most of the time.

I was taught to hunt waterfowl by my older brother, but the methods we used are no longer in practice. I am self taught in current methods.

My current gun is an Extrema...my favorite gun is a Browning Gold Stalker but it won't cycle anymore so it's retired.

My dream hunt would be to start in Alaska with a 40 foot trailer and plenty of gear and follow the migration down the Pacific Flyway, hooking up with local guides as I progress down into Mexico. Hunting ducks and geese all the way. When the Mexican season ends...end up in Cabo for some fishing. Come on retirement!

Well, lets see.

I'm currently living in Willows, CA grew up in the Bay Area. Dad got me into hunting when I was a youngin, carried me out to the blinds at Sac.

Hunt mainly the refuges in the Sac Valley, might try the grasslands if I get a good rezzo. Hunt in the Klamath Basin a lot as well. Also got a blind in the rice for the non-refuge days.

Browning Gold is my gun.

My dream hunt is gonna happen in Sept, headed to Alberta. I also want to do a hunt like fat., follow em from the breeding grounds to the wintering grounds.

My name is Blair Summey and I live in Simi Valley. I try and hunt all over the state, which allows me the opportunity to try new locations and meet new friends. I usually hunt Kern NWR, Mendota, or Wister. I make one annual trip to hunt the Klamath Basin for 7-9 days and I try to make at least one trip each year to hunt the N. sac valley refuges. I am 46 years old and I have been hunting since I was 10.

Gotdux here!
Raised in NCAL...ready to go, montana, oregon, nevada, idaho,washington,somewhere...in desperate search of a marsh where i don't have to pay admission, unbearable licensing fees, can run the outboard i want, where i won't see a line of 15 scrapers standing on the levee, where 15 kawasaki grizzlys won't be mashing through the marsh AT SHOOT TIME and a place where gas station coffee is all I can get!

I mainly hunt the bay, suisuin, and delta...occasionally i hunt the bypass and other unmentioned small impoundments on the east side of the sierra.

I'm an ex DFG employee. Now a pro-photographer, I've had a second career for the past few years catching shoplifters, as fun as hunting ducks on somedays...

I love to roll smack out on my hunting partners they can't keep up with the unlimited amount of sarcasm that flows past the most beautiful set of copenhagen covered lips you'll ever see.

Gun is beretta 391, dog is black, wife is at home!
Enough said thanks..and good night now!

Hi. I'm Larry, and I'm a duckaholic.
I live in Poway, California and hunt the Colorado River area for the majority of the season. Trips to the Great Salt Lake (no, not the Salton Sea) and the Los Banos area make up the rest of my season.
I hunt about 28-30 days a season and shoot either an 870SP or a Gold, depending on the situation.
Geese are okay, but I'd pass up a Canada for a greenhead every time. My favorite duck is probably the wigeon, because they are beautiful, they decoy well but not too well, and their call is ethereal.
Glad I found this forum...it's pretty good and, being mostly California stuff, very helpful.

Hi All:

Great Web site.

I was raised on the Cenrtral Coast, started duck hunting (educated in shooting and picking by my Dad) in the Los Banos area in 1960. Shot mostly commercial clubs until we purchased our own Duck Club in the North Grasslands in 1970. Enjoyed the days of seven sprig limits and had many of those back then.

Moved to Montana and was thrilled with December mallards on the Madison and jump shooting on the East Gallatin and various spring creeks near Anaconda.

On to work in Southern Idaho where chukars and waterfowl dominated fall activities.

Then to Alaska where, needless to say, the season was rather short, but the days were indeed exciting. Fished the Kenai during the summer and hunted waterfowl after Sept. 1. Particularly enjoyed my hunts at Izembek NWR for geese and black brant. Emperor geese were continually landing in our decoys, no wonder they have to be protected by USFWS. If you ever get the chance to hunt near Cold Bay, I guarentee it will be an experience of a lifetime. Be sure to watch out for brown bears....

Newly on the Southwest Desert and learning the areas to hunt waterfowl. Headed to Imperiel NWR today for a visit to check out possibilites.

Favorite shotgun is Beretta 20 ga. o/u Model S686 Special.

Favorite waterfowl, black brant and canvasback.

Dream hunts happened at Izembek Lagoon.

If you see a camo Old Town kayak headed across I-10 or I-8 it will be me. Suspect I own the only two in either CA or AZ.

Best regards to you all,

quacker001

P.S. Take a youngster hunting with you when possible.

Hi , I started hunting when I was 9 yrs old in the Imperial Valley with my Family, Father, Mother, Uncle ,Cousins . That is what we did on the weekends as a family event. I have kept it up for over 40 years now. . My northern range is from Wister and sometimes San Jacinto Refuge South to Mesa Rica Sonora, Mexico to east on the Gila River to Dateland Tacna area in Arizona.I have both a Shorthair and a Lab . Hunting is my passion and I try to go as often as I can. A very good friend turned me onto the Web Site and I have enjoyed it. The people seem very serious about their Hunting.I hunt Upland Birds hard until Thanksgiving then start to focus on Waterfowl . For Ducks and Geese I hunt the Colorado River in Mexico Calif and Arizona where ever the Birds are concentrated unless I get a Low Number on a Refuge.

I live in bakersfield. Hunt kern almost every shoot day. i go out on tour days just to watch ducks. My favorite duck is widgeon. I like to listen to them. I have hunted mendota 1 time 1 gwt. My favorite gun is benelli or browning. I have 3 boys that hunt with me. I think kern has the best staff. I do not shoot spoonys. I let my boys shoot one or two. I was born in michigan. I think a good hunt would be mexico or ark. I started waterfowl hunting 2 years ago. I go to colorado elk and deer. Season is over to quick. waterfowl is a long season. i can say that i enjoy waterfowl more than elk now. and i cant tell you why. just something about ducks. i have pet ducks 2 mallard drakes Mally and Puffy, 1 hen mallard Moma. And 2 wood ducks drake and hen. they nest by my bedroom window. so i hear them all night. Mally likes to be the dominant duck. he will find the back of a chair to be higher than anyone around him. he chases my 9 year old around. wood ducks are a little wild you can hold the drake but the hen is temead.

I've been on this forum for a while now. Met and hunted with several JHO'ers. Every one of the guys I have hunted with have been top notch. Grateful for all of the excellent information found here without which I would be nowhere hunting waterfowl in Southern California.

This is my first year hunting in SoCal. I grew up in Indiana fishing and hunting with my dad. Hunted with my soon to be father-in-law in Missouri and Arkansas at his duck club and on his farms last year. Going again this year, hopefully this will be a yearly pilgrimage.

I shoot an Rem. 11-87 Super Mag. and hunt with a British Lab (fox red color).

I think every state should have a site like this. Or, this site should have a forum for every state.
