I've had the same experiences with WU sales people. I turned them down about ten years ago then gave them a try a couple of years back since I have a buddy who's been a member for a long time, and I didn't have anywhere to hunt at that time. I joined but haven't used it much since I got back my private ranch access this year. I used it alot the first year for deer hunting and turkey. Like the guy in the earlier post said you just have to know how to use the club and you could have some good hunts. I'll probably go inactive this coming year since I have my ranch access back (been hunting that place for 20 years!). My buddy say's his membership his worth the price since he gets to bowhunt some properties that hardly anyone uses during the bow seasons. Personally, I've never had a problem getting a reservation when I wanted one. I have a short list of favorite properties based on the recommendations of my buddy and I've always been able to get on them.

All in all, I have enjoyed my membership. My experience with the interview was a little different. It was scheduled to be at our home but was moved to the emergency room at a local hospital. About a half hour before the rep showed up, a friend of mine down the street had a serious allergic reaction and I went with her to the emergency room to watch her two babies while she was treated.
While the WU rep wanted to close the sale, he obviously understood that much had transpired that day. I think we did the rest of the deal the following day.
The biggest difficulty I've had has not come from WU but from my other half who doesn't really like cattle ranches. I dragged him into this world of hunting and I love it, but he puts up with it.

Wow Cam188....You went back 2 years to dig up a WU thread??? You must like fights too. I find the UFC a touch more entertaining, but only because I can see the blood myself. This is definately a close second though. Good call!

I can't comment on any WU Ranches, since I'm not a member. I did the whole "Interview Process" less than a year ago and what a HORRIBLE experience that was. I made myself VERY clear on the phone, I just wanted information on the club. The meeting started off decent and when he figured out I wasnt "buying on the spot", he turned into a Major A-hole. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven't thought about joining since.

Joining WU has been one of the greatest things I have ever done. I was a member with my father when I was tweleve (1988) but soon dropped the membership when his work schedule became hectic and my sports began taking up my time. I rejoined 5 years ago and have been having a blast. I've killed deer or pigs on every ranch I have hunted and have canceled many reservations early due to early success. My wife has been enjoying the ranches as well and has had success as well. I've been having so much fun hunting WU I have paid the extra money to add plus members and got be with my buddy on his first Archery Kill this year. The first year it is hard to cough up the money for the initiation fee but WU excepts payments on both the initation fee and the yearly dues and will work with anyone, especially with this tuff economy we have today. I have never had difficulty finding animals especially when leaving the comforts of my pickup and the roads. WU also does great things for kids and does many fundraisers for different organizations. WU is worth the money and reservations are easy if you plan your trips and really easy if you are open to hunt anywhere. You have any questions feel free to ask me.

For me, the interview was nothing, I wanted to join before the rep. even started the interview, he actually made me hear the whole interview even though I told him I wanted in. I have really like the club as well, I'm inactive this year but will be going full bore again next year.

jerryt, if you don't mind me asking, what ranch did you take you bucks from? Great looking deer.

I called about joining too, that was back in the 90's. I wanted access to some of the Morgan Valley Ranches. After they told me about the interview process I question them, they told me that the club is geared the club towards families. I backed out then. They suck in my book.

I was a member for awhile. I saw some game and took a couple of animals as did some of my friends who are members. When I added up the costs, it just didn't make sense. For the money I was paying, I could go on 2-3 guided hunts a year with a near guaranteed success rate.

I'm a WU member and love the club my son and I have a good time when we hunt and don't have to worry about nothing. I have seen so much game on the ranches I have been on and I just use a few ranches. I been busy for the last 3 months and haven't use a ranch in that time, but I will be active again in March and plan on getting a hog and have a great time with my son. I have not had a problem getting a date on a ranch. Like someone said keep up the bad mouth better for members.
