Non active reservist.... Wow, that just leaves a big hole in me now lol.
You can still hunt Vandenberg if you have a current ID card.

Straight from the regs...
5.3 Persons authorized to hunt Vandenberg AF, including basic conditions for such authorizarion:
5.3.1 Active duty, retired, and reserve military members; and prior active duty members and family members of active duty
who possess applicable service identification cards as defined in AFI 36-3026(1)......
That fits my description. Getting an A zone tag tomorrow then.
dude. dont forget your favorite "cousin" cliff!!!
Hey Mike: for the time being a 216 is being issued, but you are getting a separate card that will eventually serve. Deer hunting still requires one and yes, check in is necessary on all deer and hogs killed. Lots of new areas opened up that were previously closed, although much of that was opened to archery only.

Hang in there! My hat is off to you for your service to the rest of us. Thank you! Did you make arrangements to renew your license and get tagged for the year? The G11 hunt will be through December 31, but you need an A zone tag. So, if you are going to hunt, you need to be up to date. Let me know if I can help with that.Good news...I heard a rumor that was coming from the G/W the last time I was up there about the 216 going away. Now I just need to get back home so I can get after some more pigs. It's just not the same over here in the sand box. I should be back in San Diego around Halloween but not sure when I'll be back up that way. Definitely won't be too long after this god-awful deployment ends...this one has been rough so far!atiotic-wavin-flag
So my take is that it goes like this:
1. Buy an A zone tag
2. Go to base exchange
3. Change A zone tag for G11 tag
4. Go hunt?
No, if you are already in possession of two A zone tags, you can't get a G-11 tag. You need to go to the VAFB BX and buy a "Second Deer Tag APPLICATION". Fill it out right there and mark your zone choice as "G-11". Once you have filled out the APPLICATION, give it back to the person helping you. The VAFB Conservation office will then deal with the G-11 applicantions. No CA F&G office or vendor can/will deal with issuing a G-11 tag. There is no exchanging an A-Zone Buck tag for a VAFB G-11 tag. You can also mail in the application, but I don't know the address. Call the VAFB Conservation Office. I think the number has been previously posted.
correct. the regs say the ID card holder may sponsor a guest, for periods of 3 days each to max of 9 days total. So the deal is, you go with the sponsor, he checks you into the gate, then you two go to the BX with your tags/license etc and buy a 3 day guest pass (You can do that 3 times).
Then its off the game shack to check-in. The guest (you) must be in close visual and verbal contact with the sponsor at all times.
If you screw up, the sponsor gets nailed.
Its a relatively new program and a good deal. The hunting on VAFB is awesome.
