Here's a thought to make this happen
<

Call Tom Homen and set up a CWA Committee called So Cal Waterfowl Days.
Being a chairman for CWA on the So Cal BBQ Shoot, it's better to work as a group to get things started than to try and net-work it over JHO. Setting this up for next year is a good idea. Keeping it away from the hunting months is better. Head it up for May, June, or July. Keep this waterfowl oriented, Dave, you mentioned chokes and Hevi-shot, well get some choke company's to come out and put patterning boards, shoot them at $1.00 a shot, have a HeviSHot rep. come out.

I'll talk to Troy about maybe doing a seminar, will have a boothe, I'm sure Darius Taxidermy would come for it, the finest Taxi on the west coast, IMO. There is plenty of things that guys would like to see, a dog demo would be great.

Now if Prado wants $12.00 to park, then I think that Don and Janet should donate half the proceeds of parking and camping back to CWA, that would be a fare and a motivation to get people to pay.

Have things for kids, the future of our hunting heritage.

I don't think that the vendors would have a problem with the $12, it's everybody who attends that also has to shell out $12 per person, per car - who knows?

Raahauges is notorious for gouging folks for admission and then screws them again for parking? This is exactly what Jesse is trying to get away from.

Jesse. Nice job on the quick decision. You have valid reasons and have thought this through.I still think we should get a group of JHO people at Prado. I am going to keep the date of Saturday September 24th. I have a group of 10-15 people that want to get together and train there dogs, pattern there guns, shoot some sporting clays, maybe even hit the duck tower. We can pre order some chukar for training and fun. We can get them from some place in the high desert, I think it is McDonald Farms.I will have a price for everybody on Friday. I will prove lunch (hamburgers and hot dogs). Who needs Vendors ? Jesse can you make it on that date. It would be a great oppertunity to start a committee for next years event. "Stoke the fire before the coals burn out". If you want to make a big splash next year, there is no time like the present. We can call it The Pre Seasson Tune Up. Anybody interested ? Chime in with idea's and if you plan on attending.

Mike, my comments on the $12 were directed to the visitors. $12 for a vendor is tiny compared to what other events want. People are changing their plans and routes because of the gas prices and I can assure you adding $12 to this event will make some people stay home. I heard the same complaint about Raahauges when the price there got up over $10. Mike, I appreciate your help, don't take it as I'm trying to shoot you down. I'm just giving my honest opinion. Remember I'm the one who didn't want to let another year slip by without this event.

As far as having it in May here is why I think it's better to have it in Sept closer to the season like the TUrkey tune up. Most of the gear we see at the shows in early year doesn't arrive until July/Aug/Sept. People want to see the gear, pics don't provide enough touchy feely experience. Reference the posts about Bass Pro and Turner's about the complaints about items not being in stock.

Plus people are getting revved up about the season later in the year. I see it here every Aug. The deer hunters are out and lots of people come back in to post and check out the info here.

The TUrkey tune up grows every year since it at the right time and well planned out.

calfowler, I can make it. If we want to do this we need to get started promoting it now. Can someone make up a flyer and post it here so everyone can download it and print it out to pass out?

1st Annual SoCal Waterfowl Day call it I guess

Jesse,
As far as next year goes, can we try to plan this so that it doesnt conflict with any hunting openers..... I would love to go to one of these but I hate to give up deer opener.

Impossible. Something is opening somewhere or there is another event somewhere. We just need to pick a date and do it. If you're a waterfowler you'll be there.

One more thing to note on the 24th Sept date for this year. That is Lake Murray's Outdoor festival day. Dogs, hunting and other stuff up there. It might be better to do it Sunday the 25 th so you don't conflict with that event.

ANyone do a flyer yet?

Sorry I did not mean to get Pissy

But I’ve been working on a game plan for next year and I thought we can use this year as a test, I am not looking at this year as a grate show, but I do know we need a practice run and even if it’s only JHO'ers there. We can get some grate pictures of things we are going to do and of what we would like to do. This way we have something to promote. So next year we can start planning it now, and we can make this thing just about FREE for Venders and attendees.

I started making a list of Waterfowl Companies this is what I have so far. I have about two to tree weeks of research to do to get the rest. If you have a company that is for waterfowl call them NOW get them there, look all they need is product and a table. That’s it. If they have more, cool bring it, small or big just bring it. Its Free they got nothing to loose. (but a little time) I'll be there and I will have at less two Boths myself.

Here is the layout...

I did one in color and one in B&W...

I can add the content once you guys figure it out. I can also make the banner smaller so that we can fit more sponsors logos.

Let me know what you guys think...

Wow !! Outstanding work Outdoorplay and Bulldog. Jesse I will talk to Janet and change it to Sunday September 25th. Jesse are you sure you want to call this the "First Annual Socal Waterfowl Days". I think you want to save that title for next years event. This is more like a JHO getogther. That will be your call.

Bulldog, you are the man. I Like it just he way it is.
<

calfowler, I do think we should stay with the First southern Cal. Waterfowl because we need to use this as a photo opportunity, even if it is just us. also we can better plan the photos to help promot next years.
we will need to get pictures of.

1. A bunch of people sitting at a seminar? Calling, so on
2. of a decoy spread
3. Demo shooting
4. Dog training
5. Clothing
6. Waterfowl product

this way we can make flyers as inexpensive as possible and direct people to the web site for the show and have a hole photo Gallery, this will help vendures see that this is a show to show off their stuff.
On the flier we should have a kid’s program/how to, dogs, produced.

Also I think if we keep this as a nonprofit we can get big support from the primes. And we will get a lot of Free Advertising and we can get this show Free for everyone…

I hope you guys realize we can turn this into one of the biggest shows in the states if we do it right.

Flyer looks good bulldog. Throw your logo on there as a sponsor if you doing the flyers/promo materials.

Let me lean on Stearns/Mad Dog. We move a lot of their gear and they are great folks. Kolpin too, they have Final Approach.

I'll look up some old friends at KFROG radio to see if we can do a give away for some love on the radio.

I'll call George at the CWA youth camps and Steve Triglioto to get their help.

We need some volunteers to help with the CWA youth stations. People who will show up and help, not just talk about helping.

We will need some tents/pop ups and chairs? Anyone know where to get them donated?

We need a time for the flyer. 9am until 4pm? The turkey tune up runs about 9am until 2 pm. Raffle at the end to keep people there.

For the flyer text we can have bullet points of:

Goose and Duck Calling Seminars
Calling contest Pro/amateur
Dog training demo
Decoy Use Seminars
Vender booths
Shotgun patterning?
Dog launch contest
Youth activities
Raffles
Delicious food
Duck carving seminar
Taxidermy exhibition

$12 adult
Youth free under 16
$10 camping

9am -4pm
Sunday Sept 25, 2005
Prado Park.

What we need is big name sponsors on the flyers. They will be the draw to this event. So post up a list ASAP so I can do the layout for them. I'll work on the flyer tonight and have something posted by morning.

I would like to volunteer.

Are we strictly limiting it to waterfowl. The reason I ask is because I think I can get Griffins Nest to having a booth. Not only that I am sure Jacob will donate some birds for the juniors to hunt. There are members here that can run their dogs for them including myself.

Also outdoorplay... contact Tri-Tronics. Dog food companies will also jump on. I notice they sponsor a lot of events. Mike I guess you are the prom/sponsor guy... here is the site for... dockdog
