I love GSP's too, but if you have ever hunted over a viszla you'd see what the best pointing all around bird dog is. They love water, point like a mofoe, have a better nose than GSP or LAB and have traights of several breeds all wraped up into one! They are also the oldest pointing breed still in existance.

I own them, have owned them for 26 years now, but, would never be so bold as to say they're the "BEST"
There's just too many fine breeds of sporting dogs for that crown!
Good dogs, they most definitely are, I'm on my fifth one, my best friend on his fourth, and have come to know many more folks that are now fancying them!
26 years ago, me and my best friend would rarely see another out in the field! Now, I usually see some each and every season, and that's great! [attachment=32634:attachment]My current adult female, "Sadie"

LOL, your to funny, LOL. I'm glad you like your dog and breed. Your comment that V's have the best nose and being the best overall, or all around hunting dogs, is just to funny, LOL. By your comment I can tell you havent been around to many dogs or other breeds, LOL

There are good dogs in every breed, and different breeds are better suited for different people. If your happy with the way your dog performs in the field hunting, thats what it about. BUT that said EVERYONE that knows anything, knows GSP's are the BEST, LOL, right BigDaddy.

AnewBigDaddyB sorry you feel that way. I am simply voting for my favorite pointer. The questions was to vote for what you think the best pointer is.I have probably trained more dogs & horses than most. I grew up on a Cattle and Horse ranch and was taught by one of the best dog and horse trainers in the State. Some say the Nation. So go ahead laugh! If you ever see my dogs in the field you would know.I have over 40 years experiance in training animals and that includes bird dogs, deer & pig dogs, hearding dogs etc. Glad you think it's funny though! LOL !! I guess you can put that in your pipe and smoke it !!!!

God Bless and good luck,

Maybe I'll see you out there someday,

MJ, don't get what you feel sorry about with my statements, they're great dogs, I just won't be caught saying ANY breed is the best!
I love the breed, as I stated, I'm on my fifth over 26years, doesn't that in itself say enough?

This poll is silly, How in the heck do you define "best"" anyway. If it would have asked for favorite breed, ok fine.

chavarriamj, why don't you go back and read who wrote what. Here is a clue, AnewBigDaddyB didn't say that.
Also, can you explain why viszlas, which of course are so much better than the other pointing breeds, don't do so well in field trials? I understand trials aren't hunting, but I can't quite figure out why Viszlas, with all their superior powers, don't make the transition from dominating the hunting fields to dominating the trial circuits? Field trials aren't that different from hunting.

Personally I agree with Bigdaddy, no such thing as a best breed.

Maybe the best pointing breed is the breed you happen to be hunting over and is kicking butt that day!
(and besides, my Dad can beat up your dad)

The best, hands down, is the breed that hunts best for you. Debate over. :).

I think the best all around hunting dog is a pointing lab, great nose, great drive, great retrievers and in my opinion great pointers.

Definately GSP all the way. I've had Labs, Spaniels and GSP's and there is no comparison on average. There are individual dogs which can be better, I've seen a couple Britany's really work the field. And, if you're going to use them for ducks they are not as good as Labradors. But, for any kind of upland birds you can't beat their nose and pointing skills.

I just want to add MHO, please don't blast me with all the reasons you feel I am wrong.

This poll is based on best pointing breed, and I give that to the English Pointer. Reason, this dog was bred especially for there stamina, nose, and pointing ability by english nobleman as a pointer. These nobleman had servants, tracking, flushing, or retrieving dogs to retrieve there downed game.
Almost every other breed was bred by the common man who could not afford different breeds for their hunting needs, and wanted one dog which could be trained and perform tracking, pointing, and retreiving.

Best Pointing breed by far is the english Pointer. Not much in the way of personality but definitly has the drive style and point to win this one hands down.

As far as a hunting dog I would have to vote for the DK or DD.

sprig! nice San Jacinto roosters, and dogs!
Four roosters at SJ on the same day!!!

Last year total was 44 for the season, and average of 1 rooster per 7 hunter days.

To bag 4 is excellent. Wild birds, right?
