Hi I am a new guy here on this forum. I have been training hunting dogs for almost 30 years , guiding hunts and having fun all over Ca and Co. We have formed a team for tournament hunting at the national level and as such travel and compete all over in several different associations.

Hi there - I am fairly new to this site also -

I got my huntung license when Gray Davis was elected into office - my own personal political protest!

First time out was for dove - and all I caught was mosquitos
<

the next time out ws with my husband and one of his buddies - they each got two pheasant and I got 3 pheasant and 2 chucker! (at a club - dont worry, legal hunt) - and got addicted to the teamwork with the dog and the impulsive skill with the shot gun.
<

I met a few more ladies at some of the DFG women's hunts; and met Bryce Mann and "Trigger" helping out on a wheelchair hunt.

Have been out for Turkey, mountian quail (Thanks Bryce!), have brought home a ram's head and now have a bison hanging on the family room wall - - this is an addictive sport - - and the eatin' is none too bad either!

Since then, we have acquired a couple of more GSP and with some planning have been able to bring along the kids, for chucker and pheasant - (I leave the doves and mosquitos to my husband)

I would love to see more women involved. We say that we need to get kids involved to keep our sport alive but without the educated support of moms, we wont get enough kids. - especially with so many divorced and single parent families.

We usually hunt in the Gustine area - both wild and club - I have had the opportunity to ride alongside a few field trial competitions, and although that is not real hunting, it still involves teamwork, the excitement of the dogs, and the beautiful outdoors.

Any more ladies out there??? Gentlemen - send me your wives and girlfriends!! I would love more women buddies to hunt with. No experience? I love to teach and we can learn more together!

Jean

Dream hunt??? No real dream - just love what we do - -occasionally we have GSP pups for sale and that is a thrill too. i love knowing that I am involved with real conservationists, who really care about the health of the land and not just a personal need to show off and hope others think that they care

Born and raised in Ventura, California. Hunted since about 1990. I hunt duck in point mugu, quail and chuckar in cuyama and mojave desert. I swing several guns, ducks-12 and 20 gauge 391 berettas. Quail and chuckar I hunt a krieghoff, a browning and a beretta in 20 gauge all the way down to 410. Depends on the mood I'm in I quess. I just purchased an english pointer pup. He is spending six months with Ron Soden out of Fongeo Kennels in bakersfield. It's driving me nuts waiting for my new pup. Most my dream hunts are fullfilled, my close friend owns 40,000 acres in mojave. Just can't get much better. In the off season I'm fishing and shooting skeet.

Hello everyone...brand new to the forum and I'm looking forward to contributing. I'm Karl DeHart from Boise, Idaho. I'm an avid bird hunter and have been known to take a shot or two at big game. I thought instead of a long description I'd just post a few pictures as my introduction. My pup is a 5 year old GSP and her name is Zealot. The bottom pic is a friends dog Zoe retrieving a mallard.

I grew-up in Ridgecrest California and left after high school vowing never to return. Went to college to avoid the draft.....Vietnam lasted longer.....joined the Air Force and saw the world......after that ole' Ridgecrest looked pretty good, it was where I wanted my kids to grow-up. Now I live minutes from some of the best chukar and quail hunting anywhere.....and the same for some great stream fishing in the High Sierras. This is where I belong....here is a picture of my habitat.[/b]

I am new to the forum and almost new to So Cal. I was raised in Texas where we shot mostly dove and ducks. I friend of mine suggested the Red Mountain area for Chukar. Is that near where you took your picture. Any tips you can provide? I do an annual pheasant hunt in Iowa every year but need something to hold me over for the rest of the season. I heard chukar were harder to hunt than wild pheasant. I love a good challenge. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Y'all,
My name is Rick and I live in Fresno, CA. I just turned 30 the 28th of Sept and this year will be my 20th year hunting. I started going with my dad at age 4 and loved it from that day forward. I now take my two oldest boys who are 6 and 3. Mainly the 6 year old. My favorite bird to hunt is the elusive ring neck pheasant. There is nothing like a fast flying rooster on cold November morning. My favorite dog to hunt over is a German Shorthiar. My dream hunt is the all known South Dakota pheasant hunt. I own a lot of shot guns and it is hard to pick a favorite . If i had to, I would say it is my Ithica SKB 500, 20 gage over and under. I shot it best. I hunt most weekends from Sept 1st through Jan 31.

Howdy all!

Cant tell you how glad I am to have found this site. Not coming from a hunting family I only recently started shooting...bought an CZ-USA/Huglu o/u 12ga in 2005 (just a so so gun now that i've had the opportunity to shoot some nice ones). Started out only doing sport shooting, but went quail hunting last November and it was awesome. The sound of a covey busting is unbelievable! It was a long hard day and the birds were a bit dodgy, but I managed two and my buddy got one. Thats when I figured out that its all about the experience. Anyway, I'm in LA and will be heading out more this season and look forward to reading all your stories and hopefully posting a few of my own.

-Brad

My name is Steve, and I live in San Diego (Fallbrook)

I hunt Quail/Chukar/Huns in the Owens Valley, Ridgecrest, and most recently in Winnemucca, NV. I used to hunt Gambles in AZ alot, but have been away since it quit raining there.
I use a Browning Citori O/U with 24" bbls...20 ga.
I have GSP's, and used to field trial with Eldon Hongo years ago. Now my dogs are my wifes snuggle-monkies, and must be ripped from her arms to go afield....
Empire building has kept me out of the field these last 5/6 years, but my nephews are getting to the age of interest in things outdoors. Their dads don't hunt or fish, so it's up to me to carry on the sport in our family.
Unfortunately '07 seems a bleak start to their education.

Born an raised in california. My Dad taught me how to Hunt at the age of 10. Got my license at 12 and tried to out shoot the old man. It wasnt until 8 years later that I can now say that I am his equal.

I started most of my dove and quail hunts in temecula cal, back in the mid 80's. Dove hunting was awesome we only had to go 5 minutes from the house. We always had limits and plenty to shoot at. Today however it is the thing of the past most of our hunting grounds are now houses. Dont get me wrong I still have a few holes, and when I not harrassed by cops I still pull out limits.

I am now 29 years old and due most of my hunting were I can. I hunt on public land and feel that no one should have to pay to hunt. I also feel that we have to get more of our youth in the outdoors. Our youth has lost touch with nature, they would rather sit in front of the tv and play video games all day than go out hunting with dad. Well not my kids and if you want hunting to have a future get your kids involved.
Wingman.

Well, I'm not really that new around here....

Anyway, I live and have always lived in Kansas, and have always birdhunted in Kansas until a quick little trip we took down to around San Angelo, TX last month.
We have pheasants, bobwhites, and prarie chickens around here. We hunted bobs and scaled quail in Texas last month... I was told that lil trip is going to become an annual thing.

I hail from the San Diego area. Relocated to NorCal with my fiance and have been up here since 2003. Hunted all around the Central Valley but love the outskirts of Sacto the most. Been hunting in Amador since '07 and love the friendlyness of the area and it's people.

Kind of introduced upland hunting, to myself at 19, and it snowballed from there. Deer, bear, upland, waterfowl, pig...anything I COULD afford, I've hunted. Loved it ever since. Pops liked to fish, and never really introduced my little bro and I to hunting. So I did it all myself.

I shoot a Remington 870, and love it. Can't go wrong with it. Have shot other guns but always came crawling back to the 870. Something just feels right with it.

As for dream hunt, I'd love to hunt pheasant in South Dakota. Never been on an out-of-state hunt, and figured SD would be a nice place to visit.

Jesse, love the site dude. Don't know where I'd be without it!

Hello all,

Currently I live, and go to school, in Santa Barbara CA. Hunted with my uncles in Delaware when I was young. Mostly deer, duck, and dove. I moved to South Monterey County, Greenfield, for an internship on a 6,000 acre vineyard. Dove hunted the vineyards everyday of the season after work, also stumbled on some quail and rabbits here and there. That’s where I fell in love with the sport. My dad hunted as a kid, and took a few trips to Mexico for dove when I was in high school. Mostly taught myself through trial and error I guess. I shoot a Beretta Xtreama 2, and love it. Hunted at Wister for ducks, Los padres for quail, and I am hopping make it to the Carrizo Plains this coming season. I hunt alone sadly as I don’t know many hunters, especially at my age of 20. My dream hunt would be to be back in greenfield on the vineyard, to fish our reservoir for bass in the afternoon, then hunt dove in the evening.

Glad to see all these Californians.

cheers

My name is Jason. Born and raised in Victorville (and still living in the HD).

I grew up hunting dove once a year during the first season opener. When I got out of the house I decided I wanted to do more hunting than one trip a year. So in the last three years I started going for quail on the mojave river north of Victorville. Last season I scouted, scouted, scouted in all different areas but as we all know, last year sucked! So this year I look foward to trying some more spots along the mojave and also maybe giving SJWA a shot. Good luck this season! Oh yeah, I am also going to try some chukar up near Red Mountain, but apparently, according to folks here, that spot is no good either.
