Don't let that scare you away from this forum. We like to hear how it is and what it's like hunting where you are at too.

And last time I looked CA and WI were still part of the same country. We just have to travel a little further to hunt but I'm betting you'd like some of our weather about now.
<
Actually we could use a little of your weather to get the birds moving. How about a trade?

yes I guess we're on the same land mass- but from what I read we're in different time warps- at least my town and LA.
Actually our weather is ok for ducking -just that our season is closed. Good luck to you--

Grew up in Vacaville CA. My pop had me hooked on duck hunting when I was about 6. I couldn't even shoot but I would head out with him to the delta with his buddy.
Got my licence when I was 9 started to hunt the delta with my pop but then got turned onto Grizzly Island ( when it was.......better) and hunted that for the next 15 years. For the past 5/6 years been shooting the Sac Valley refuges.
Favorite bird is a big ol' bull sprig. I also love Cans probably cause we don't see many but I've got a few and they're a good lookin' bird.
For the longest time I shot Ol' faithful (Remington 870 Wingmaster) but recently purchased a Browning Gold 3.5 shadowgrass camo.

My name is Mike Merlo. I was born in 77' and live is Sacramento Califoria. My dad started me waterfowling when I was nine years old. I try to get out at least 3-4 days a week with guiding. I have hunted Oregon, through out northern and central California and freelanced northern Alberta. I primarily hunt ducks but enjoy calling geese the most. I have a black lab named Tule and shoot an A391 Extrema and an AL391 URIKA. I have been given the nick-name Rattlesnake for what reasons I cannot explain.

My name is Chad Mangold. I thank god that my father got me into hunting because it is the best thing for me and it keeps me out of trouble. My pop started me out when I was 5 years old taking trips with him out to the sea. I started shooting when I was about 7 year old with my 1100 youth model and my pop brought me up to really respect guns and hunting in general and I always thank him for that.

I am from Rancho Cucamonga, Ca and i still live here. I am now 23 and I am a regular at the Sea, but have been trying out San Jacinto for the last week and enjoy it. But the sea will always be home for me.

I was taught by my pop most of the stuff except calling which i am now trying to teach him but it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

My favorite duck to hunt is all of them and i am absolutly addicted. But if I had to narrow it down it would be Weidgon and at a close second Pintail. I love it when weidgon commit and come bombing in to the spread, but i also love the sight of pintail, circiling the decoys many times before they commit, if the even do commit.

My favorite gun that i use is my Browning Citori O/U. It is by far the best gun that i have used to date.

My Dream is to make a living out of this sport weather it be guiding, conservation, Warden, etc. That would be the best!!!

I was born and raised in Cameron, LA. My family and I were fortunate that we owned our own property that we use strictly for duck hunting. At the age of 5 I was handed a gun and dragged to the duck blind with my father and I haven't stopped yet. My old trusty used to be a 870 Wingmaster, but in recent years I've started shooting a Benelli SBE. Both have served me well.

As for my favorite duck, I'll have to pick whatever is flying. For the last 5 years or so its been greyducks(gadwalls), mallards, and pintails(which sucks cause the seasons closed on em and I have to watch em swim thru my decoys), with a few teal mixed in there somewhere.

When it comes to my dream hunt, there is no contest. I am dying to get down to Argentena and hunt ducks and/or doves.

Born and raised in San Leandro. Father and Grandfather(original refuge rat) started me young. Have hunted every refuge in Sacto valley as well as Grasslands for over 30 years. Lately, last 10 years, have primarily hunted San Luis and Kesterson. Went to college in South Dakota, all the hunting stories are true. Really miss those days

Favorite gun: S&W pump.
Favorite duck to hunt: Teal

Dream Hunt: Every morning at Kesterson is a dream to me. Can't get enough of that marsh.

See you there this weekend!!

Born in Utah, moved to the Bay Area in 1955. Dad grew up in Idaho but did not hunt. When I bought my first shotgun at 16 or 17 I had to hide it under my bed. My first duck hunt was at Volta when I was 19. Wore a pair of hip boots and found out that the water was high, and COLD. Got hooked on pheasants at 22 and bought my first gun dog, a Brittany. He had a great nose but decided that ALL of the pheasants must be in the next county. Boy was he great in the afternoon on the 2nd day of a 2 day hunt.

I don't hunt as much as I would like, due to the difficulty of getting on the good public area but still enjoy it when I can. When you get older you find that seeing the sunrise come over the Sutter Buttes is damn near a religous experience! And if you get a duck or two, well that's a bonus.

Hello,
I'm new to this site/forum. I'm from the mojave Desert (Ridgecrest to be exact). Been hunting the Owens Valley for 30 years. It aint easy but if I get a few birds....my blood gets boilin' !!! I save up all my vacation at work and take nearly a month off in the winter months to hunt Gods greatest creatures.....WATERFOWL !!!

Dont have a favorite duck or goose. Just love to hunt 'em. Must say that my motto is..." If it flies, it dies".

Here in the desert we (or at least me and my 2 sons) shoot 10 gauge Brownings cause everything in our neck of the woods has been shot at so many times it aint coming within a mile of a human being.

As of this date (02/01/05) most all the hunting is done until next year. Hope you all have a safe and happy summer.

New to the site. My site name is cause I'm a varmint hunter. I do shoot alot of duck and my dog jake ( black lab)and I try not to feed any buzzards when hunting duck. I shoot the north grasslands, near los banos/gustine, ca. Live in stanislaus county. been shooting ducks since I was a teenager. Different now but still love it. Just like the experience of friends, comardarie, b.s., and watching the dogs do their thing, its the best.

I am also new to the sight. I was born in southern california and i am steal here. The only places i hunt are wister and sometimes San jacinto. with in the past five years i have been Cibola a lot and i love it there. But the main thing that i hunt are snowgeese. They are just so much fun to hunt. Also the most challenging i think.

I am from Minnesota and I hunt waterfowl mainly in Minnesota, Canada, South/North Dakota and Nebraska. Going to Lake St.Clair in Canada in the end of October and hopefully out to Maine in Novemeber for a seaduck hunt.

I hunted waterfowl since I could walk with my Dad, Uncles and brothers.... It is now one of my biggest hunting passions next to Turkey....

My favorite duck is either a drake wood duck or a drake pintail...

My favorite shotgun for waterfowl is my Browning Gold Hunter... 12 gauge 3 1/2"

Happy Hunting to all!!

Hey ya'll
I am from Georgia, near alittle town called Jersey. I live in between Athens and Atlanta, It's about 35 miles each way. I hunt a good bit around my house and some of the near by resevoirs. I have also been to several other states duck hunting. I have hunted Texas, Florida, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Washington State. All four flyways. I got started hunting at the age of 5 when I went with my dad, a couple uncles, and some friends. My first hunt was on a Thanksgiving morning and I didn't kill anything, but hooked for life. I don't really have a favorite duck, I like them all. My goal is to collect a pair of every species of duck in the U.S. I have collected all of the puddlers except for a cinnamon teal which I hope to get out to California to get. The only diver that I don't have is the common golden eye. I've still got to gather some of the sea ducks as well, I don't have any of the eiders or an oldsquaw. I made it up to Washington this past January well I bagged a nice double banded harlequin that was 10 1/2 years old. I can't really say I have a favorite gun, but I frequently use my benelli super balck eagle. I also have browning, remington, and a berreta. As long as they will shoot I like them. I have several dream hunts that I'd like to make. First of all a hunt in Cold Bay Alaska for King Eiders is top of the list, then I'd like to venture to Mexico and Argentina just to see all the numbers. I would some day like to hunt from a layout and a sinkbox.

Good Hunting,
Jason Needham

Hello everyone,

I was born and raised in Romania. That's in Eastern Europe and just to make things clear, my homecountry wasn't part of the Soviet Union and no, I'm not speaking russian either.

We're the guys who invented Dracula and Nadia Comaneci and presented you the opportunity to see a communist dictator executed by firing squad on live TV.

I live in Downey with my wife, kid and two Giant Schnauzers. I am self employed.

My first hunt was last December at Wister. I bagged three ducks. Beginner's luck, I guess.

The shotgun I had on my first hunt was a CZ 712.
Since then, I added to my collection an old Savage Fox model B SxS I restored (beat up gun found in a pawn shop for $100) and a Khan Arthemis Special Edition O/U.
I have a Benelli Nova in the shopping cart for January. That's gonna be my 15 year old kid birthday present.
