I am a hunting and fishing fool. I was born in Panarama City, Ca, but grew up and currently reside in Simi Valley, Ca. I have been waterfowl hunting for 2 years and love it. I have 2 German Short Haired Pointers I hunt upland with and 1 that loves water so he duck hunts with me. I mainly hunt Kern NWR, but have tried Cibola, Wister, San Jacinto and Mendota. I mainly hunt alone due to the lack of popularity of the sport in this area but got my fishing buddy through his Hunter Saftey coarse, so he'll probably get out a few times this year.

My name is Adam from good old Colorado Springs CO. I am stationed at cannon AFB nm so I hunt here. I hunt in Colorado also.

I am using an old Jc Higgins 20-12. Its old but that was given to me by my new hunting buddy. I didn't learn to hunt waterfowl from my dad. My wife’s brother in law took me out for my "maiden" voyage last year and I am hooked. I was an elk hunter but I now spend time hunting birds because the action is sustained and not over in one shot.

My Idea hunt is going to be when I take my son out and he gets his first bird. He still has about 12 years left but I am patient.

My name is Brent. I've been hunting with my buddie RonK in SoCal for the last 15 years(upland game and deer). I moved out of town till about 18 months ago and last year he got me hooked on ducks. Only hunted SanJac last year, but I've been told there are bigger and better things out there

My favorite shotgun is my Winchester 1300 speed pump.

A dream hunt would be mallards in the flooded timber.

Drakehunter(Adam), I'm trying to relocate to the Springs. Are you going to go back when you are done with your service? If so maybe we'll be neighbors some day.

I grew up in Mississippi and Texas. My family is from Mississippi so I grew up hunting around there. Used to go back to Mississippi a few times a year hunting and miss it!! Hunted near Charleston Ms on the delta. My uncle had a lease with about 3200 acres with about 1/2 flooded timber. The owner died, left it to his son (non-hunter) and he ended up selling out. Some guy bought it and tore down the old duck camp and erected a huge house. Then gave like $1 mil to DU. Supposedly they put him on the cover of the April-May issue of DU mag. but I haven't found a copy. I'm stuck in California and have adapted to this style of hunting. Mainly hunt the local military bases. The Wister is about the only place I go besides on base. My favorite shotgun has to be the 870. I purchased the Super Mag when it came out and haven't looked back. One day I will get me a semi though. I'm too cheap now though!
My father is by far my biggest hunting influence. He makes duck calls some but back in the late 80's he was into it bigtime. We used to go to Stuttgart for the Championship every year. He put a booth up and sold calls. Even had the La. state champion blow his call one year. That was a highlight for sure. Thought I was going to make calls for a living. But it never took off I guess. Now I actually have to work for a living!
Dream hunt is Canada for goose/duck in the fields. Always wanted to do that.

I was born and raised in SoCal, my family is from Kansas and Wisconsin. My dad started me deer hunting when i was 9 and we hunted Montana quite often. After i returned from the military, most of my friends were into archery so i learned. We hunted utah, san dimas, cleveland, kaibab and various other places.

When i got married and had kids i didnt have the time for archery anymore, so i llimited my self to upland game and waterfowl. My wife is a hunting widow only four to five months of the year now.

My favorite shotguns are my baretta and benelli, i use big guys best duck calls and a commander and chief. For christmas i got a new quad and a layout blind to use up in bishop and at the river. Bishop, parker, Wister, brawley, palos verdes and a few local spots are my favorite bird hunting areas.

I currently live in the yucaipa area and am always on the lookout for someone to hunt with.

Born and raised in So. Cal., Pasadena to be exact. Hunted dove since I was 6 and Quail a little later. started hunting deer and pigs in the early 70's. About 1971 I went on my first waterfowl trip. My dad and I were invited by a freind of my dad's to go with him and his son to tule lake. That was the beginning, I was hooked, hooked ,hooked. My wife , dad and I hunted wister, mendota, etc. We hunted every year there,( even my wife) until they went to steel shot and really dropped the limits(and she got pregnant). After that I dove into deer(rifle and archery) and pheasant ,Quail, etc. Last year my son got me interested in waterfowl again, and shooting my first greenwing in along time on the owens river last year did it, again I am hooked, hooked, hooked. This year we have invested in more duck decoys and goose decoys, and we are learning the fine art of calling. We have a boat that we camoed and it is now Jan. and it bugs me that the season has to end. But next year we will be better prepared and ready to go. Man I love this sport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Socal, Huntington Beach.

My dad and older brother used to take me to "The Salton Sea." We were too poor to afford Wister, that was for "yuppie hunters" we just hunted on the Federal land around the Sea, it was great. We didn't even have a tent so we just slep in the car. I've come a long way since then but I remember those were the days.

I'm originally from the Lake Tahoe area and hunted ducks and geese in the Carson Valley.

My dad taught my brother and I when we were young and we became addicts ever since.

I now live in Anaheim and go to school full time. I need to learn this area but have little time to scout. That's why I'm here looking in on the waterfowl forums trying to find the "Hot Spots". Sounds like I need to sign up for the refuges.

Any help would be appreciated. I may trade some X8 dear zone areas in return.

Hi,

My Name is Vince and I've lived in California all my life. Except for a brief sting 73-76 in Redding, I've been a Bay area native for most of my life. I currently live in the east bay. I grew up hunting in the sacramento valley near Colusa where Dad has hunted since about 1960. I started Doves with him when I was about 8 or 9. I finally got my license when I was 13 and have been active almost every year since. He started out in the Sac Valley Refuges, mainly Delevan, Colusa, and Gray Lodge with an occasional foray over to Sutter. My experience started at Gray Lodge and progressed to Delvan up till 87 or so when he bought a club near the Sacramento refuge. I've been hunting with him there since.

My first shotgun that I used for hunting was a 20 gauge Topper model single shot that I still own. The second gun dad bought me was a 20 gauge Wingmaster. I still possess that one. My current hunting gun is a 3" chambered Browning Gold Hunter. I currently use it for all my hunting unless I feel nostalgic, then occasionally I'll bring out the 870.

I had a few dream hunts already. Modoc for the Opener a few years ago. There were 4 of us, one of which could really call well. It was the only time we all Limited on Canadian Geese. I managed to get a double, with the best shot I ever made. 55 paces, 1 shot kill with #2's. I have never made a shot like that since. And yes, i was shooting Steel, of all things, lol.

I managed to make it out 4 or 5 times this year. I tend to go during the latter half of the season when we are supposed to be having lousy weather. Dad's club is one of the few places where there are always some kinds of birds. I've not been skunked (not fired a shot) in a very long time. My current favorite duck are either of the teal that fly around us. They are usually the one duck that get past me as well, making it that more satisfying when we manage to get a few of them.

My name is Steve and I'am 58 years old. I have basically I've lived all my life in SoCal,( Long Beach, Escondido, and 2 years in Bishop Ca.). I was raised in a big game and upland bird hunting family. Jump shot ducks, but didn't hunt over decoys until 1970, then a friend took me to the Bolsa Chica salt marshes (Huntington Beach). I've been pretty much been hooked ever since. My 1st duck hunt by myself (cousin Ron was a junior) was at the north end of the Salton Sea (1971). We learned quickly there were different kinds of ducks. (Thank God, it wasn't 2006) Worked at Wister wildlife Area 1975-76 as a DFG seasonal aide and hunted almost every day. I now hunt waterfowl about 50-60 days per year including Canada. I own 2 labs, Chocolate and a yellow. Life member of California Waterfowl Assoc. and Co- Chair of the San Diego North Chapter. I guess because I started duck hunting a little later than some people, I try to take as many juniors waterfowling as I can each year.

Started hunting waterfowl with my trusty 870, but now shoot a Super Black eagle. I also feel that the new steel is as deadly as lead ever was. (Kent 3" 1 1/4 3's)

I go to Canada every year and hunt Wister weekly. Once Lake Henshaw opens (Dec. 1) I hunt there quite a bit, reminds me of Bishop. Plus lots of Widgeon, my favorite duck or is Sprig? (Love them both).

I still love all forms of hunting (turkey, doves, quail, deer, etc.), but there's just something about being in the marsh at daybreak that you just can't explain.

Mostly hunt a blind North sac valley, love to hunt the good refuges if my brother or i get a good ressie, although that refuge thing can wear a guy out after a while and some of the people are a little testy for me in the mornings. I like to get out with my buddies in our leased blind away from sweating to make a blind pick, but it is fun sometimes.
